  • A fugitive wanted in Benin and France has been arrested in Pretoria along with his son.
  • The pair are accused of facilitating illegal border crossings into Zimbabwe with plans to travel to Europe.
  • Authorities have confirmed extradition processes are underway.

A fugitive wanted in several countries, including Benin and France, has been arrested in Pretoria.

The 45-year-old suspect, Stellio Gilles Robert Capo Chichi, was arrested alongside his 18-year-old son, Seba Capo Chichi. The pair briefly appeared before the Brooklyn Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 15 April 2026.

They are facing charges related to facilitating illegal movement into Zimbabwe through the Limpopo River.

Authorities allege the duo worked with an accomplice who was paid approximately R250,000 to help them cross the river with the intention of travelling onward to Europe.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the father is indeed a wanted fugitive in France and Benin for crimes against the state.

During the arrest, officials confiscated cellphones and approximately R318,000 in cash.

The Hawks, with the assistance of Interpol, confirmed that Capo Chichi is wanted in Benin.

The case has been postponed to 20 April 2026, with both suspects remanded in custody as extradition processes get underway.
