Sorry Chris Evans, but I’m Not Believing Your Avengers: Doomsday Comment After Andrew Garfield in ‘No Way Home’

Ahead of No Way Home‘s release, Andrew Garfield vehemently denied any association with the threequel, and as the story goes, it turned out to be a bunch of hooey. This move from Garfield also ensured that fans remained on their toes and ultimately contributed to its immense box-office glory despite the COVID roadblock at the time.

A similar situation now might unfold with Doomsday, as Chris Evans’ recent remarks regarding the Doomsday situation certainly seem to be treading on Garfield’s tried and tested move.

Even with the major cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday, which will mark the return of several legacy characters alongside Robert Downey Jr in an entirely new role, it’s safe to say this might not be the entire picture. Given Marvel’s history and its strict adherence to secrecy, it won’t be a stretch to assume the media giant might still have several surprises up its sleeve.

Reflecting on Doomsday, Chris Evans, currently involved with Materialists, starring Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal, stressed that he has yet to be asked to return for the first Avengers release in years. What’s important to note is that he has expressed a sense of sadness regarding his absence from the reunion with the Russo brothers, which somewhat contradicts his previous statements of being happily retired as Captain America.

He told Screen Rant:

It’s sad to not be back with the band, but I’m sure they’re doing something incredible. And I’m sure it’s going to be that much harder when it comes out and you feel like you weren’t invited to the party

Although it is very much possible that Evans might not be in the Russo brothers’ scheme of things, it could also be his way of throwing fans off by pulling a Garfield here.

Andrew Garfield’s experience ahead of No Way Home‘s release was stressful

Unlike his fellow MCU Spider-Man, who has struggled to keep secrets intact, Andrew Garfield largely succeeded with his misdirection. This isn’t to say it was easy for The Amazing Spider-Man star, as playing poker about his No Way Home involvement proved stressful, which is reasonable given he “don’t like to lie”

On the flip side, Garfield confessed he found the entire thing weirdly fun and described the experience as a “massive game of werewolf”.

He told The Wrap:

It was stressful, I’m not gonna lie. It was rather stressful but also weirdly enjoyable… It was like this massive game of Werewolf that I was playing with journalists and with people guessing, and it was very fun.,, There were moments where I was like, ‘God, I hate lying.’ I don’t like to lie and I’m not a good liar, but I kept framing it as a game.

Even though it’s too early to draw any conclusions, especially with the delays for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, there’s a non-zero chance that history might repeat itself, and this time around, fans won’t be fooled.

Avengers: Doomsday is slated to release on December 18, 2026 (USA).
