Boosting last-mile schools

THE country is facing tough challenges amid controversies on national governance. While some feel hopeless about it, there is hope for the nation. And that starts with education for the young Filipinos.

Believing in the power of education to transform our future, the state pension fund is relentlessly investing in programs that promote learning among kids.

Infact, the Government Service Insurance System has turned over a 400,000-peso technology package under its Adopt-a-School Program to Sambolungan Elementary School in Sitio Sambolungan, Davao del Norte, and Manasa Elementary School in Barangay Anitapan, Davao de Oro.

“We are with you every step of the way,” Veloso said during the turnover. “Devices and power matter. Connectivity matters, too.”

DepEd’s schools divisions in Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte presented certificates of appreciation to GSIS for the Adopt-a-School Program, accepted by Veloso.

Meanwhile, GSIS also received four awards from local government units for promoting stability in local governance and safeguarding public assets.

Earlier, the agency held a stakeholders’ dialogue in Tagum Davao del Norte on recently to hear directly from GSIS members, pensioners and local government partners on how to make transactions faster, simpler and more responsive, and to turn feedback into specific service improvements.

“We came to Tagum with one clear purpose: to listen to you, and to learn from you,” GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said. “We want to serve you better, and we can only do that if you tell us, plainly and specifically, where we are helping and where we are falling short.”

Veloso said the GSIS is prioritizing simpler processes, clearer communication and more responsive channels, including digital services through the GSIS Touch mobile app and system upgrades.

“Your pension fund is already 99.6% digitalized,” he said. “But we are open to your suggestions to make it more responsive to you.”

He also underscored GSIS’ role in safeguarding government properties so public services can continue during disasters and accidents.

He cited housing support for government workers, saying the GSIS has 47 available properties in Davao del Sur, including Tagum, and 12 units in Davao del Norte, including Davao City. Veloso said GSIS no longer requires a down payment for qualified buyers.
