The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has strongly condemned the illegal practice of selling queue positions at its local offices, describing it as exploitative, unlawful, and harmful to vulnerable beneficiaries.
SASSA CEO Themba Matlou said the practice is particularly concerning as it targets elderly people and persons living with disabilities who rely on social grants for survival.

Will face action
He stressed that both members of the public and any officials found enabling the practice would face action, warning that it creates a false impression that the agency is complicit.
SASSA said it will strengthen security measures and work closely with law enforcement to clamp down on those involved in the illegal activity.
The agency acknowledged ongoing service delivery challenges at some offices but said it is improving queue management systems to ensure fair and orderly access, with priority given to vulnerable groups.
Encouraged to use online self-service portal
Beneficiaries are also being encouraged to use the online self-service portal, including the eLife Certification system, to reduce congestion at offices and lower travel costs.
SASSA said it remains committed to improving efficiency and dignity in service delivery as it marks 20 years of providing social assistance in South Africa.
