The case involving a shooting incident at a residence in Hyde Park has continued in the Alexandra Regional Court on Friday, where two accused men have pleaded guilty to multiple charges linked to the February incident.
Bellarmine Mugabe, son of former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe, pleaded guilty to pointing a firearm and contravening South Africa’s immigration laws, while co-accused Tobias Matonhodze pleaded guilty to attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, illegal immigration, and possession of ammunition.
Background to the case
The charges stem from a shooting incident in February at a Hyde Park residence where an employee, Sipho Mahlangu, was reportedly shot during an altercation.
According to court proceedings, the incident led to an urgent police investigation and the subsequent arrest of the two men.
Authorities allege that the shooting occurred within the premises of the residence, prompting attempted murder charges due to the severity of the attack on the victim.
The case has also drawn attention due to immigration-related offences linked to both accused, which have become part of the broader criminal proceedings.
Court proceedings
Both accused appeared in the Alexandra Regional Court where their guilty pleas were formally entered.
The case against the pair has been postponed to Friday, 24 April, to give the defence time to find the weapon used in the attempted murder of Sipho Mahlangu.
