A Mathematics teacher from Ivory Park Secondary School has been arrested over the alleged sexual assault of a Grade 12 learner from the school.
The incident reportedly occurred in December 2025 when the victim was still in Grade 11, with the learner’s mother formally reporting the matter to the school principal on 2 March 2026.
He was arrested on Wednesday, 04 March 2026, after allegedly trying to evade arrest.
“Preliminary information further indicates that the alleged perpetrator had reportedly been offering additional private tutoring services to the learner outside official school hours at his place of residence, where the incident is alleged to have taken place,” said Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona.
The Education Department in the province has initiated its internal processes to attend to the allegations.
Mabona says the Department is also in communication with the victim’s family to offer therapeutic services to both the affected learner and her parents.
