Family, friends and fans bid farewell to the legendary isicathamiya singer

Friends and family of Ladysmith Black Mambazo co-founder Albert Mazibuko have gathered in KwaZulu-Natal to lay him to rest.

The 77-year-old passed away earlier this month following a short illness.

Mazibuko was a cornerstone of the multiple Grammy Award-winning group, having been part of its journey since the 1960s.

He joined the isicathamiya ensemble in 1969 after being invited by founder Joseph Shabalala and remained a dedicated member for more than five decades.

His final performance with Ladysmith Black Mambazo took place at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town in 2023, where he took his last bow.

The group is currently on tour in the United States, with performances recently scheduled in Minneapolis, San Antonio and Dallas earlier this month.
