Public discussion of political dynasty backed

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. supported the conduct of public consultations on the proposal to pass an anti-political dynasty measure, which would bar relatives of an incumbent elected official seeking reelection from running for or holding any elective post.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said that during the recently concluded Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC), President Marcos welcomed the ongoing public consultations conducted nationwide by lawmakers on the anti-political dynasty bill.

“Noong nabanggit ito mismo ni Senator Risa Hontiveros sa LEDAC at nalaman niya na nagko-conduct na ng public consultation ay natuwa ang Pangulo dahil ang nais ng Pangulo ay maisabatas ang nasabing bill, Anti-Political Dynasty Bill, dahil iyan ang nais ng ating mga kababayan,” Castro said in a Palace press briefing on Friday.

Castro said the President is open to certifying the proposed anti-political dynasty bill as urgent, but only after reviewing the final version approved by the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“Kapag naibigay na iyong version ng dalawang Kongreso para malaman kung dapat ba itong i-certify as urgent, dahil depende iyan sa provision, makakaasa kayo diyan,” the Palace Press Officer said.

During the latest LEDAC meeting, President Marcos approved 21 priority bills, including the anti-dynasty proposal which remains pending in the Senate and House committees. PCO
