  • BMW has recalled more than 575,000 vehicles worldwide due to a potential fire risk linked to faulty starter systems.
  • The affected models were manufactured between July 2020 and July 2022, with owners urged to check their VINs and visit dealerships.
  • The recall follows a similar BMW campaign announced in September 2025 involving nearly 200,000 vehicles over fire-related concerns.

BMW has launched a global recall of 575,000 vehicles due to a potential fire hazard linked to the starter system. The issue was identified through internal inspections and customer complaints.

The car company confirmed it will begin contacting affected clients to arrange the possible replacement of faulty engine starters.

While the affected vehicles may become harder to start over time, BMW warned that, in the worst-case scenario, the defect could lead to a vehicle fire during operation.

The recall affects several models, including the 2 Series Coupe, 3, 4, 5 and 7 Series sedans, as well as the 6 Series Gran Turismo, X4, X5, X6 and Z4.

The impacted vehicles were manufactured between July 2020 and July 2022. BMW also noted that any cars fitted with starter motors during this period may be affected.

Owners have been advised to check their vehicle identification numbers (VINs) using BMW’s official online lookup tool and to book an inspection at their nearest dealership as soon as possible.

The latest recall comes just months after BMW announced a mass recall of nearly 200,000 vehicles produced between September 2015 and 2021.

That September 2025 recall was linked to possible leaks in the starter system, which could cause corrosion, component failure and an increased risk of fire.
