CIGNAL continues its hot streak after brushing off a pesky Farm Fresh side, 25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 30-28, last night in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Foxies were poised to extend the match at 24-22 on a Jolina dela Cruz service ace when the Super Spikers saved two set points, including an outside hit by Ces Molina to tie at 24-24.
The fourth set was hanging in the balance until Farm Fresh folded up in the end when Tin Tiamzon won the joust after an Alohi Robins-Hardy failed attack, and Remy Palma and Bia General were not able to keep the ball in play, allowing Cignal to escape with the win.
Extending their perfect run to three matches, the Super Spikers are bracing for a Valentine’s Day tough match-up.
Cignal will face Nxled, which has a 2-0 record, in a duel of unbeaten teams on Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
“I think yung No. 1 muna namin na dapat naming gawin is kung paano mag-recover sa pagod ngayong game,” coach Shaq delos Santos said after the two-hour, 21-minute grind.
“Aralin lang namin kung paano sila (Chameleons) na mag-perform and siguro ma-maximize namin kung ano ang kailangan naming i-improve at yung strength namin.
“Right now, i-enjoy muna namin ang panalo and i-appreciate ang pinaghirapan namin,” Delos Santos added.
Gel Cayuna was on point again for the Super Spikers, lobbing 19 excellent sets and scoring seven points.
Vanie Gandler was scintillating on offense and defense for Cignal with 25 points, 15 receptions and 14 digs while Erika Santos added 15 points, including two blocks.
The Foxies, meanwhile, absorbed a second straight defeat.
Trisha Tubu led Farm Fresh with 19 points while Molina chipped in 18 points, 13 receptions and eight digs.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Volleyball Federation confirmed that Thai mentor Tai Bundit has officially taken the helm as head coach of the Alas Pilipinas women’s national team.
