Healing from a heartbreak takes time, and while Nikki Bella was still recovering from her past relationship with Cena, she made an unexpected remark that seemed to contradict her actions, revealing a more complex emotional picture than what met the eye.
Nikki Bella revealed why she broke up with John Cena
Nikki Bella talked about her relationship with John Cena during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. The former Divas Champion shared:
You almost wish it was bad, because it’s so much easier to walk away. It’s so much harder to walk away when it’s loving.
Additionally, she also said that John Cena was an amazing person, but she was still unsure about spending her entire life with him. She also commented that a lot of women get into a situation like that.
The now 17-time world champion and her former partner were in a relationship for 6 long years before deciding to part ways. The two WWE superstars decided to go in different directions as far as their personal life was concerned following their breakup.
Nikki Bella dated and ultimately married dancer Artem Chigvinstev. John Cena decided to marry Canadian engineer Shay Shariatzadeh.
Nikki’s marriage to her dance partner also did not work out. The couple decided to end the marriage in late 2024 shortly after Artem was arrested in August on allegations of domestic violence.
While Nikki Bella had a son named Matteo with Artem in July 2020, she also evidently thought about having children with her former partner John Cena, but Cenation leader had a different perspective altogether.

During the same conversation, Nikki Bella also discussed how they had a contrastingly different view on family life and why she did not have a baby with John Cena. Nikki shared:
I just knew that I didn’t want to bring a child into a relationship that I didn’t know if this life was right for them, and I went with it, and then Artem came waltzing into my life.
Her separation from former partners became a huge talking point upon her WWE return during a recent verbal altercation with Liv Morgan. The Oblivion specialist pointed out how Nikki Bella wants everything she has in life: a championship belt and a man.
The verbal argument snowballed from there and quickly turned into an actual fight, with Morgan slamming Nikki with her signature move. However, the veteran WWE superstar has confirmed in her latest Instagram post that she will be going after Liv Morgan in her pursuit to re-establish herself as a predominant WWE superstar.
