The journey to getting to the top of the mountain is a difficult one, and it is not merely about winning titles or going on long title reigns. Because in the world of WWE, the secret to success is being in the good books of the fans. The finest example of this case would be Nikki Bella, who has been one of the greatest talents to step foot inside the ring.
The one half of the Bella Twins has had an incredible career in World Wrestling Entertainment, which includes being a 3-time Divas Champion and the longest reigning Divas Champion of all time. But what has kept eating on the inside is why the WWE Universe keeps hating on her. Even her return was met with criticism from the fans, and she might just know the reason behind it.
Nikki Bella knows why fans hate her
Before the modern women’s division gave outstanding matches each week, the section was ruled by the Bella Twins, Nikki Bella and Brie Bella, who made women’s wrestling more popular and made the title look more prestigious. Alongside her twin sister, they delivered their twin magic, often keeping their opponents guessing as they squared off against her inside the ring.
However, amidst her rise to stardom and being one of the biggest personalities in women’s entertainment wrestling, one aspect of stardom has kept bothering her. The 3-time Divas Champion can’t understand why so many WWE fans criticize her online and hate her every time she makes an appearance on WWE.
During an episode of The Bellas Podcast, the Hall of Famer opened up about being the most “hated person in the wrestling industry,” and it is one of those subjects that has startled the most because her actions always result in getting “hated” by the fans. What shocked her more was how she never made any claims of being the “best” and each time has stepped inside the ring with passion and love for the sport.
Later in the podcast, she mentioned how she was “confused” about getting into a world full of hate, and the most reasonable answer was that she was “successful” and never parted ways with the wrestling industry. She said,
Being successful, literally, that’s it, because I’m successful…I’ve never turned my back on the wrestling industry. The more success I’ve had, I’ve always tried to bring more awareness to women’s wrestling, and empower more women, what can my success do for others?
She stated how some people would see the good in her and appreciate her by writing articles about her good deeds, which makes her believe that the world is still a nice place to be. However, the small group of people who keep criticizing her are just people being static and “afraid” of going with the flow, and sooner or later, people are going to turn on them.
The hate from the fans has been relentless and never-ending as they cheered for Liv Morgan brutally assaulting her with words and finishing her off with an Oblivion in the most recent segment of Monday Night RAW.
Nikki Bella’s ex-husband was surprised by the John Cena hate
Aside from making a name for herself with her in-ring achievements, Nikki Bella’s personal life has made her a highly popular figure in the entertainment industry. She dated John Cena for six years and even accepted his public proposal to marry her during WrestleMania 33 in 2017. Gradually, the 41-year-old learned that their lifestyle had a massive difference, and Cena was a control in their relationship. Eventually, they had a nasty breakup, forcing her to call off her wedding just a month prior.
Later in 2019, she met Artem Chigvintsev and had a brief but loving relationship with him, welcoming a baby and even taking sacred vows together. However, Chigvintsev was taken aback when he constantly got called out by Cena’s fans. During an episode of her The Nikki & Brie Show, Nikki Bella shared how her then-husband was getting “hate” and was compared to Cena. She said,
The one thing that has affected me the most recently is just all the hate Artem gets because they compare him [to Cena]. They’ll say things to him, and Artem will ignore it. Every now and then, he’ll make a comment to me and he’s like, ‘Gosh, your industry can be so brutal. The dancing industry is not like that.’
Since then, the former Divas Champion filed for a divorce from Chigvintsev after he found himself in legal trouble and paid for a steal deal that ensured her freedom. Nevertheless, she still has an opportunity to get on the good side of the fans if WWE creates a good storyline against Liv Morgan, as the segment teased the veteran’s return, possibly giving her a match at Night of Champions.
Night of Champions will take place on June 28, 2025, at 1 PM ET on Peacock in the U.S. and Netflix internationally.
