‘Vigilantes’ Doesn’t Have One Limitation Studio Bones Gave to ‘My Hero Academia’

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is on track to become the next big thing within the anime industry as it is perfectly following in the footsteps of its predecessor series, My Hero Academia. The series is the perfect spin-off in every possible way, and it explores a different side of the superhero world, thus adding more perspective to the My Hero Academia world.

However, there are a few fans who believe that My Hero Academia: Vigilantes might have the ability to even surpass the original series, solely because it doesn’t have one limitation within the anime that My Hero Academia had. It looks like Bones Inc. decided to go full throttle with My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, and it is quite visible.

The limitations were the removal of dark scenes and moments from the anime that were a big deal within the manga. While My Hero Academia had many such moments where dark elements were essentially snipped, the ongoing series doesn’t.

Bones doesn’t shy away from including dark moments in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes

While the general tone of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is quite wholesome, embedding themes like slice-of-life, there are moments that can get quite bleak. In fact, these moments become the defining factor of the narrative and result in not only creating suspense but also making the plot thrilling for anime fans, and the perfect example of this was seen during the latest episode.

The latest episode of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes revolved around Knuckleduster looking for Kuin, as the two have a connection. Thus, a lot of focus went into Kuin’s character development, and it was truly quite menacing considering the overall tone of the series. It won’t be a stretch to say that it was the darkest episode of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes yet.

Although Bones Inc. has a reputation for omitting such gruesome moments or replacing them with something mild, the studio doesn’t seem to follow this with My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. This might be a good thing after all and will certainly contribute to the overall success of the entire series, as these dark moments retain the essence of the original narrative.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes might surpass My Hero Academia

As mentioned above, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, including the dark moments, is good for the anime. However, what fans don’t realize is that it might be the main factor that puts the series past its predecessor, the original My Hero Academia anime, which still has one more season that is scheduled to release in October 2025.

My Hero Academia fans have complained multiple times about Bones Inc. removing or clipping bleak moments from the story. While it was understandable, considering the themes of the original series, it did cause some disruption with the flow of the narrative. This small limitation has now become a big problem for My Hero Academia.

Hopefully, with the final season, Bones Inc. will remove these limitations and let the narrative flow in its own way without any restrictions. It’s the only way My Hero Academia can still maintain its image as one of the greatest anime series of all time, and stop its successor from surpassing it in terms of fame.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
