To Be Hero X is all about gaining people’s trust to rise to the top, and X has not only achieved that, but also maintained that position and status for quite some time. The show hasn’t yet reached the point where he’s the central focus, but we have seen a glimpse of his abilities in the promotional video.
His abilities are visually interesting, and given how he’s risen to the top, it’s safe to assume that he’s the strongest character at this point. If we take note of everything X is capable of, he seems like an Isekai anime in human form. That sounds bizarre, but it’s true, and here’s how.
Everything we know about Hero X’s powers so far

The anime hasn’t explored Hero X’s powers yet; however, his promotional video shows us what he is capable of. To protect a dog, X unleashes his powers against a group of attackers. He turns them into 2D art and teleports to an alternate reality, and then turns them back to their real form.
Interestingly, every time the animation in the show switches from 2D to 3D, there’s a snap sound. That could be a hint of exactly how wide the scope of X’s powers is. Or it could simply be a stylistic addition that doesn’t have any canon relevance to the plot.
All these assumptions are based on what his powers look like. The show hasn’t given us a canon explanation of what X’s exact abilities are. It almost seems like he has the ability to warp reality and can teleport himself and others to an alternate world or dimension.
X’s powers could be a reference to Isekai anime
Most Isekai anime work on the same formula, where a person dies and finds themselves in a new world. Having the knowledge of their former lives makes them superior to most people. For that reason, most Isekai protagonists are overpowered.

X is much cooler, and by the episodes’ standards so far, it’s safe to assume that he’s more nuanced as well. As for his powers, X is both overpowered and has the ability to create an Isekai anime. His abilities are a great play on the common Isekai tropes. Unlike the typical Isekai hero, X has earned the trust of people, which in turn, granted him his abilities.
Instead of being an escape from his responsibilities, these new worlds exist for the sake of others. There’s not a group of girls swooning for him, and life isn’t a smooth sail. X has more control in these alternate worlds, but his responsibilities are also increased. Similar to how he protected the dog, X seems to be using his ability to shield the world from evil.

It’ll be some time before To Be Hero X properly explains X’s powers. An elaborate explanation will make things clearer. For now, X seems like a clever version of Isekai tropes, and he does everything better.
To Be Hero X is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
