Tired of Floaty Button Mashing? The Blood of Dawnwalker Swings Hard Thanks to Real Sword Training

While most action games focus on gory sequences, Rebel Wolves’ The Blood of Dawnwalker has chosen otherwise. This RPG vows to give you a combat-rich experience, thanks to the availability of real swordsmen in the developer’s team. It is rather true because what we saw in the game’s trailer, the sword fighting sequences do look professional.

The lack of proper sword fighting in recent games has been evident. Most of them feature nothing but fast-paced sword slashing in the name of “sword fighting.” Quite literally, it doesn’t feel much like authentic warrior-style sword fighting. However, this is all about to change as Rebel Wolves are here to change the way you look at action games with their upcoming RPG.

Rebel Wolves had real swordsmen in the team for The Blood of Dawnwalker

After the reveal of the gameplay trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase, it was pretty clear that the ex-Witcher 3 devs were up to something. The glimpse of sword fighting shown in the trailer looked promising. It wasn’t just swinging and slashing, but proper and skilled combat, which will instantly remind you of medieval fighting styles.

After the game showcase, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, Rebel Wolves’ creative director, took some time to enlighten the viewers about The Blood of Dawnwalker’s combat system. Here’s what he said regarding it:

Coen trained for years with his father, a grizzled war veteran, so during the day, he wields a sword. We studied medieval fighting styles and even have a few trained swordsmen on the team.

Coen is the main protagonist of this game, who is bitten by the evil vampires in an attempt to convert him into one of them. In a shocking fashion, Coen manages to retain his human traits while having the powers of a vampire, giving him superstrength, magical abilities, and the ability to walk under sunlight.

Despite keeping the enemies at your mercy, you will have to take some time to strategize your moves. Since it is not going to be mindless slashing, you will have to look for openings and then swing your sword like real warriors do. Make sure there’s no room for error because the vampires in this game won’t show any mercy.

Magic is going to be an integral part of your arsenal

Besides sword fighting, you will also be able to use pure dark magic to fend off enemies. However, it’s not something that you will be able to learn by paying a fee. It’s quite different than most games. Frankly, magic is one of the much-anticipated features in The Blood of Dawnwalker, apart from the Superhero Duality.

Coen will be able to learn magical powers over a period of time in this title, as explained by Tomaszkiewicz:

We’re not going the high fantasy route with colorful explosions. Our spells are darker and grounded – tied to blood, heat, and air that seems to pulse and breathe. The visuals can be striking, but in a more visceral, eerie way. To cast a spell, you first have to literally open up your body to the occult by carving runes and becoming a living conduit. Magic flows through you.

That being said, it isn’t going to be the magic you see in movies. Instead, it’s going to be dark magic with horrifying results that can’t be spammed recklessly. The developers promise to give you a game full of content that you can not afford to miss at any cost.

While The Blood of Dawnwalker isn’t out yet, you can expect it to feature some hard-hitting sword moves instead of flashy melee combos. The action genre might be oversaturated, but this game stands firm on its ground, promising to showcase combat like never before.
