‘The White Lotus’ Season 4: Everything We Know So Far

The White Lotus hotels seem to continue to attract customers and audiences. Despite the hotel chain having way more dead bodies than room service options available, we’re still booking rooms. So, after watching rich folks spiral into chaos in Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand, HBO is returning with another round of luxury, lies, and possibly another murder.

The White Lotus Season 4 is officially happening, and we’re already packing our emotional baggage. Creator Mike White is back at the wheel, steering this messy yacht full of privileged drama, awkward dinners, and suspicious deaths straight into a new destination. Let’s take a closer look at the cast, plot, location, and murders awaiting us in the show.

Has HBO renewed The White Lotus for Season 4?

The check-in desk at The White Lotus has been open for a while! What are you waiting for? Take out your suitcase and keep your resort wear ready because, despite three seasons of mystery, mayhem, and multiple dead guests, HBO is still very much on board with creator Mike White’s hit show.

In fact, the network is so confident in this drama-meets-dark-comedy gem that The White Lotus has already been renewed for Season 4. And it happened way before Season 3 even premiered. As per Variety, the renewal was confirmed in January 2025, nearly a month ahead of Season 3’s February 16 debut.

This kind of early renewal is rare, but The White Lotus isn’t your average show. It has become a cultural phenomenon. With utmost faith in the show’s success and popularity, HBO chairman and CEO Casey Bloys even hinted back in November 2024 that Mike White would likely move forward with Season 4 if he wanted to (via Variety).

Mike, obviously — if he wants to move forward and do the four seasons — he will do the fourth season.

Spoiler alert—White eventually ended up wanting to renew the show, even before Season 3’s impressive numbers started rolling in. The latest season of this HBO show has been raking in the ratings, with the penultimate Episode 7 hitting a whopping 4.8 million viewers. This proved that viewers can’t get enough of The White Lotus

Meanwhile, amid the exciting news, let’s brace up for one twist, as the next season might sound a little different. Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, the composer behind the unforgettable, primal theme song that fans associated with the show’s eerie elegance, confirmed to The New York Times in April 2025 that he’s exiting the show.

Location for The White Lotus Season 4

Now that we know we gotta pack our bags for a new vacation, let’s find out where we’re traveling next.

Well, after sipping cocktails in Hawaii, eating pasta in Sicily, and diving into spiritual chaos in Thailand, fans are buzzing with curiosity. What sun-kissed or maybe snow-covered destination will Season 4 take us to? It turns out that HBO is still being hush-hush, but they’ve dropped a few clues.

Francesca Orsi, the head of HBO’s drama department, teased in a February 2025 interview with Deadline that location scouting is underway. While she hinted that the next White Lotus resort might be “somewhere in Europe”, Orsi mentioned that the location hasn’t been finalized yet, as they’ve talked about a few other countries on the map.

We’re going on some locations scouting in the next couple of weeks, so we’ll know soon. I can’t really say where we’re going to land, but chances are somewhere in Europe… [there are] some countries on the map that we talked about, but nothing to report on until they actually go locations scouting.

Meanwhile, fans online have been throwing out guesses about The White Lotus Season 4 location. They’ve speculated that since the first three seasons had postcard-worthy backdrops in a sunny locale, the upcoming season could switch things up by spending time at a White Lotus resort in a cooler climate.

However, this theory may be unlikely as Mike White’s longtime producing partner, David Bernad, told The Guardian in February 2025, “Mike doesn’t like the cold.” So you can likely scratch Iceland or the Swiss Alps off the list. White has also expressed interest in taking the series down under. At the 2023 Vivid Festival in Sydney, he said he’d love to do a season in Australia (via Yahoo).

My dream would be to hit every continent, so yeah, this is like its own continent basically. We kind of have to come to Australia if we keep going. It would be so fun. Obviously, there’s a huge wealth of talent here and the beauty is inarguable, so it feels like it checks all the boxes.

So, the land of Kangaroos could be a possible destination. But there’s also another contender—Japan. David Bernad told People that at first, he and White originally wanted Season 3 to take place in Japan, but then, production logistics pointed them toward Thailand as it made more sense. After all, Japan just wasn’t as film-friendly at the time due to tax rebate policies and weather constraints.

We didn’t know much about Thailand. I had been there once before, but when we boiled down countries that worked weather-wise, had a tax rebate, that were film friendly, and really, it was just only Thailand in that region. So, we were like, oh, we’ll go to Thailand first and we’ll go on to Japan.

So, while no official announcement has been made, Europe, Australia, and Japan seem like the top contenders—unless White surprises us all by stepping out of his comfort zone and setting the next season in Antarctica.

Who would be cast in The White Lotus Season 4?

The casting for The White Lotus is always like unwrapping a mystery box—you never know who you’ll get, but you know they’re gonna be fabulous. So far, the show has brought together big stars and rising talent to create magic, and Season 4 will likely do the same. So, who do you think might check into the next resort?

Well, as of now, HBO has not confirmed any returning characters or new cast members, but fans have thoughts. Given that the show has only ever brought back a few characters from the previous seasons (RIP Tanya), fans believe former alums might return to join Season 4. After all, there are two key surviving members

Yes, we’re talking about Spa manager Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) and Greg (Jon Gries), who are still surviving and have appeared in multiple seasons so far. So now, fans believe the two actors have the opportunity to check into another White Lotus resort for Season 4. However, overall, Reddit is flooded with celebrity names being fan-cast into the show.

From Idris Elba to Christine Baranski, people are even suggesting names like Kim Cattrall and Lucy Liu, who would absolutely eat up a season of The White Lotus. But overall, fans are stuck on Natasha Rothwell and Jon Gries’ characters, who survived season after season and now seem to have plenty of story left to tell.

There’s also Belinda’s hunky son, Zion (Nicholas Duvernay), who made quite the impression in Season 3. Fans wouldn’t mind seeing more of him—shirtless or otherwise. Ultimately, since Mike White tends to bring in mostly new characters for each season, you can expect a fresh mix of clueless tourists, manipulative lovers, and passive-aggressive couples for Season 4.

The crew behind the scenes of The White Lotus Season 4

While the new cast for The White Lotus season 4 is under wraps, we at least know that Mike White remains the creative genius behind the wheel. However, apart from him, there’s been a little behind-the-scenes drama that fans are side-eyeing. After all, as mentioned earlier, Cristóbal Tapia de Veer is not coming back.

Mike White (writer/actor, SCHOOL OF ROCK, NACHO LIBRE, ORANGE COUNTY) gave a public masterclass as part of the 2011/2012 edition of the Telefilm Canada Features Comedy Lab in Toronto on November 16, 2011.

The three-time Emmy-winning composer, who created that instantly recognizable “ooh-loo-loo-loo” melody in the opening credits for The White Lotus, said working with White was a struggle from the beginning. Therefore, in his interview with The New York Times, Tapia de Veer said, their final collaboration on Season 3 was their “last fight forever.”

Meanwhile, Mike White later addressed the feud on The Howard Stern Show

I don’t think I ever had a fight with him – except for maybe some emails. It was basically me giving him notes. I don’t think he liked to go through the process of getting notes from me or wanting revisions, because he didn’t respect me. I knew he wasn’t a team player and that he wanted to do it his way.

I was thrown that he would go to The New York Times to shit on me and the show three days before the finale. It was kind of a b*tch move. By the time the third season came around, he’d won Emmys and he had his song go viral, he didn’t want to go through the process with me, he didn’t want to go to sessions.

He would always look at me with this contemptuous smirk on his face like he thought I was a chimp or something… he’s definitely making a big deal out of a creative difference.

White, called it a “b*tch move” that Tapia de Veer went public about their creative differences right before the Season 3 finale. White claimed their relationship soured over creative control and that the composer didn’t like receiving notes or revisions. The two clearly had very different vibes.

So now, while most of the crew behind The White Lotus remains the same, this one change might gravely impact the show’s viewership. After all, without Tapia de Veer, Season 4 might sound very different—literally. While it’ll be interesting to see who takes over the role, fans are now concerned if the new composer will be able to bring fresh energy.

When will The White Lotus Season 4 premiere?

Okay, brace yourself: you’re going to be waiting a while before you hear that new White Lotus theme song.

Although the renewal was announced in early 2025, filming has not yet begun. According to Variety, following Season 4 renewal, the production for the show was being “eyed for 2026”. That means we likely won’t be watching Season 4 until late 2026 or even 2027.

But hey, this delay shouldn’t come as a shock. After all, there was a huge gap between Seasons 2 and 3, too. The White Lotus Season 2 finale aired in December 2022, and Season 3 didn’t arrive until February 2025. A combination of the writers’ strike, the actors’ strike, and post-COVID production slowdowns was to be blamed.

So, for now, with HBO fully committed and Mike White still steering the ship, it’s just a matter of time until fans get to return to the grand grounds of a White Lotus resort. And the wait may be worth it if the next season brings even more jaw-dropping twists, uncomfortable dinner scenes, and unforgettable characters.

Is there a possibility of more seasons of The White Lotus

You bet. While Season 4 is the only one officially confirmed, all signs point to The White Lotus turning into a long-running anthology of first-class dysfunction. Francesca Orsi from HBO told Deadline that she thinks Mike White has more to say beyond just one more season. Even White has teased the idea of an all-star edition, bringing back some of the show’s most iconic characters.

Orsi said of White,

I imagine he is going to go beyond four. He hasn’t confirmed it, but I think he has more to say than just one more season.

White told THR that he’d “love” to do an all-star edition of the show,

I don’t think that’ll be season four, but that’s still on the horizon. It’s still in discussion, but it’s too early.

Imagine Shane (Jake Lacy), Cameron (Theo James), and Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) in the same luxury suite. That’s a level of toxic masculinity that could actually kill someone. But of course, we’re ready for it. However, as White mentioned, this whole idea could be tricky; after all, the stars are becoming increasingly famous with each season, making scheduling a nightmare.

Because all of these people end up becoming huge, huge stars, a lot of these kids that are easy to get are suddenly not so easy to get… but hopefully they’d come back.

Still, since White seems hopeful that they’d return for the right story, we can be hopeful too. As long as White wants to tell more stories, fans will be waiting with a cocktail in hand, ready for the next scandal. But as of now, let’s wait for more thrilling updates surrounding The White Lotus Season 4.

All three seasons of The White Lotus are currently streaming in the US on HBO Max.
