The Shadow’s Edge Looks Like Police Story 4 But Jackie Chan Is Not Trying to Make You Laugh in His Next Movie

You know it’s going to be a good movie when Jackie Chan is in it. You’ll know it’s going to be an awesome movie when Jackie Chan is portraying a very serious role with no laughs and no gimmicks.

That’s what his upcoming movie The Shadow’s Edge looks like. With a look and feel of Police Story 4 (originally titled Police Story: First Strike), Chan’s upcoming movie has him donning a mask of seriousness as the stakes are as high as they can get, and there are no second chances in this one.

Jackie Chan’s The Shadow’s Edge looks fabulous

Throughout his Hollywood and Chinese filmography, Jackie Chan has always set out to make the people laugh. Through his stunts, dialogue, and even awkward moments in his films, Chan’s films would often comprise fighting and laughing blended together.

That doesn’t mean Chan hasn’t done serious movies before. His movies, like Police Story, Crime Story, and The Foreigner, were often grim movies with serious tones, which the world loved to see.

Well, the first trailer for Chan’s upcoming movie, titled The Shadow’s Edge, has just been revealed, and it seriously gives the look and feel of his 1996 flick, Police Story 4.

Although the story is quite different, Jackie Chan’s serious composure and his calm demeanour are something that the world can never get adjusted to (though they love it).

Although the film is in Cantonese, the gist of the story is quite clear. The Shadow’s Edge follows a tracking expert police officer (Jackie Chan) who is called out of retirement to help catch a dangerous group of professional thieves.

With Larry Yang helming the project as its director, the trailer simply looks awesome. Chan’s fighting style is more serious and composed, while his quick thinking (which was funny in other movies) seems more like a fight for survival. Despite all of this, Jackie Chan didn’t have a good time watching his own movies with his mother since she never watched them whole.

Jackie Chan reveals the reason why his mother never watched his movies!

The actor had a ton of iconic movies to his name. From the Rush Hour franchise to The Karate Kid, Chan’s Hollywood career was flourishing, and now, the name has become a legend in the world.

Despite the fame and love that the world has given him, Jackie Chan revealed that his mother hasn’t watched any of his movies for a very emotional reason. While speaking to PEOPLE, Chan revealed that his mother always turned her face whenever he would do a stunt in a movie or someone would hit him.

My Mom never watched the whole of one of my movies. She started the movie, starts at the beginning, maybe the credits. [But] when she sees I’m doing a stunt, she turns around.

He continued,

When I hit somebody, she didn’t want to see. Somebody hit me, she didn’t want to see. She never watched a whole movie.

Well, her reasoning is, of course, understandable because for some, it’s just a movie, but for her, it’s her son doing everything he can to make the movie better, including injuring himself countless times with his stunt sequences and his fights.

However, in The Shadow’s Edge, it seems that the overall tone of the movie will be very grounded, and the fights will be very realistic. With a grim tone and an intriguing storyline, the world is waiting for the film’s release, and to see Jackie Chan turn serious as a stone.

Although there are no release dates for the U.S. announced, The Shadow’s Edge will be released on 16 August 2025 in China.
