‘The Beginning After the End’ Is Still Missing the Main Point of Arthur’s Journey

The Beginning After the End‘s episode 11 gave fans a false sense of urgency. Something seems afoot, but no one has any idea about what it is. Why is Arthur in such a hurry to prepare for something? In fact, what is he even preparing for? Multiple such questions are unanswered even though an entire season’s worth of episodes have already been released.

Arthur has already proven that his strength is far ahead of his peers. His battle with Cynthai was fruitful, but the protagonist seems to be dissatisfied with everything and is in a hurry. Unfortunately enough, the series itself is in no hurry to give fans any context.

Arthur prepares for a journey in episode 11 of The Beginning After the End

In episode 11 of TBATE, Arthur revealed his wish to be an adventurer. After proving his strength to Cynthia, he revealed that he did not want to join the Xyrus Academy immediately. Instead, he wanted to explore alone for three years and join once he is the same age as the rest of the students.

Arthur’s desire is met with strong opposition from his parents, especially his mother. However, he manages to persuade everyone around him to let him go. There is a sense of urgency that Arthur needs to get stronger to protect his family and everyone he is close to. He even requests Cynthua to protect his family with her influence and power, and in exchange, he would join her academy.

Throughout the rest of the episode, Arthur prepared for his upcoming adventure, starting with the selection of a sword. He finds his dream sword pretty quickly and spends the rest of the episode in grave contemplation. But why is he so serious about getting stronger? No one knows yet.

TBATE fails to mention the goal of Arthur

Eleven episodes in, and fans still have no idea why on Earth Arthur is so serious. He seems to be in a hurry to become stronger and protect his family, but no one knows who or what is going to attack his loved ones. While readers of the manhwa might have some context of the plot, anime-only watchers are still confused about the ultimate goal of the protagonist.

It has already been established that Arthur loves his life with his family because he didn’t have the same in his past life. But then why is he not enjoying it, and instead giving up everything for another adventure? Everything seems peaceful, so what is the hurry? Additionally, his request to Cynthia also feels odd, almost as if he is sure that something will go wrong very soon, and he is running out of time.

Who is this invisible enemy that Arthur fears so much? It seems that he might be fearing a war or conflict, but the series fails to mention what war. Almost an entire season is ending without even a single glimpse at the actual plot of the series. Were all the episodes so far only for introductory purposes? A lot of questions seem to arise, but none of them are answered.

The Beginning After the End anime is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
