Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Trailer: Everything We Know So Far and When Is It Releasing?

The USS Enterprise, under Captain Pike’s prestigious leadership, is ready to venture into the stars once more, as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has set a streaming date for its third season. The trailer for the third outing of the show made audiences privy to an entire range of tones that seem to be making their way into the franchise, from heartfelt, serious dramas to genuine moments of warmth and comedy.

Be it through the trailers or other promotional materials, Strange New Worlds has a lot in store for audiences. Posters of the show tease what fans can expect from the series in the upcoming seasons. An episode list is also available, which can help fans suss out what exactly might be in the cards for them.

Strange New Words Season 3 has fans curious based on some material that has been made public

There are a lot of things about the story of Star Trek: SNW season 3 that have fans very intrigued. Season 3 is expected to pick up with the cliffhanger that closed out Season 2, where Pike was faced with the decision of leaving Gorn claimed space (as his orders dictated) or going in to rescue the allies that were taken captive by the Gorn.

Some other interesting details have surfaced about what fans can expect from Season 3, too, given certain promotional posters that have been released to the public. These posters show the current crew of the Enterprise broken up in pairs, with the posters showing different planets and settings in which the crew might find itself as the season progresses. However, the most intriguing bit of promotional material that has fans asking about the show’s direction is the one that showcased the holodeck.

First appearing in Star Trek: The Next Generation, the piece of technology was not part of the USS Enterprise, never making an appearance in the original show. This has caused a lot of fans to wonder what exactly is going to happen in the season, and whether the hooldeck is here to stay, or just a one-off, one-episode thing that the writers couldn’t help but put in.

The season will open with Hegemony Part II, which will pick up exactly where the last season left off. The next episode, Wedding Bell Blues, will premiere on July 17, 2025. Following this, each episode will be released on Thursday until September 11, when the season finale of the show, New Life and New Civilization, will begin streaming.

The show has also promised a lot of genre variety this time around, with a slew of genres that remain unexplored in Star Wars canon so far. Season 4 of the show has already been greenlit, with writers focusing on another 10-episode run. Filming for the fourth season has already begun as of March 5, 2025.

The show is also set to have a slew of guest stars, along with its main cast returning

The main cast of the show is set to return to the show, with Anson Mount as Captain Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, Jess Bush as Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh, Celina Rose Gooding as Nyto Uhura, Malissa Navia as Erica Ortegas, and Rebecca Romijn as Number One, among others. However, one of the guest appearances that has a lot of fans looking forward to it is Paul Wesley as James Tiberius Kirk, who is set ot be a recurring guest actor for the season to come.

All in all, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is turning out to be quite a treat for fans old and new, and with the confidence that the studio has projected by greenlighting a fourth season before the third one was reelased, shows that Anson Mount’s vision, of having Pike be on the same level as James T. Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard, might be something that comes sooner rather than later.

The creatives behind the show have a lot of aspirations for Strange New Worlds going forward

Given how popular the show has been getting, it is possible that Akiva Goldsman, the showrunner behind Strange New Worlds, could finally land a season that would allow her to do more than 10 episodes, which has been the standard episode count for all the seasons that have been released so far. He specifically harkened back to the time when each season of Star Trek had a 24-episode season, wishing that a similar arrangement could be made for Strange New Worlds. Speaking to SFX Magazine, he said (via ScreenRant):

Honestly, ‘Strange New Worlds’ is the only show I’ve ever been on where I’ve yearned for double the episodes. When you’re in the writers’ room breaking the season, we have 10 more good ones. We discard 10 that are as good as the 10 we keep because we just don’t have the space for it. You sort of wish it was back to the old 24-episodes-a-season with this show, because there’s so much you can do.

The episodes that are in season three, the showrunner revealed, were in part ideas and concepts that the writer’s room wanted to explore in the second season, but had to push them to the third season, thanks to the episode count.

With 10, adventure-of-the-week style, genre-bending episodes, Star Trek: Strange New World is going to start streaming on July 17, 2025, on Paramount+
