Professional wrestling is unpredictable. Many in the sport carve out long and successful careers, some leave it in the middle, and are forgotten sooner or later. Sable is a classic example of the latter. But her sudden exit has often been a subject of discussion amongst WWE fans.
Sable was at the peak of her prowess before her first exit from the company in 1999. She was part of some major storylines in the WWE and was one of the few important women wrestlers at the height of the Attitude Era. However, at a time when she was having a dream run in the company, she decided to hang up her boots. But why? The reason might surprise you.
Jim Ross unveils the real reason why Sable left WWE

Sable departed from the company under unusual circumstances. Following her exit, she filed a $110 million lawsuit against the WWE. She alleged that the working conditions in the company were unsafe, and she faced harassment shortly before she decided to quit the company. Consequently, years down the line, her name was banned from WWE programming.
The true reason behind her unexpected departure was ultimately revealed by former WWE commentator and Hall of Famer Jim Ross. Talking about her during an interview at Inside the Ropes, Ross shared:
Look, all Sable wanted to do was make some money. And she had an opportunity, through the Playboy covers and merchandise, being exposed but not overexposed on our TV. Perfect job for her. Perfect game for her. She wrestles a bit, yeah. And then when she gets really popular, she dosen’t want to wrestle anymore.
Moreover, the WWE Hall of Famer noted that although she never intended to become a wrestler, she was capable of taking hits and delivering offense in the ring, something she deserves credit for during her WWE career.

Her ability to wrestle was also evident from the fact that she became the Women’s Champion in 1998, defeating Jacqueline at Survivor Series. She held the title for a little less than 6 months, during which she defended it against Luna Vachon in a Strap Match at Royal Rumble 1999.
Sable’s glamorous career in the WWE

Sable quickly rose to fame in her own right after making her WWE debut in 1996 as Triple H’s valet at WrestleMania XII. She became extremely famous between 1996 and 1999, particularly during her infamous conflict with her ex-husband Marc Mero.
She became one of WWE’s most well-known s*x icons and appeared on the cover of Playboy several times, demonstrating her popularity outside of the ring. Her employment with the company, however, ended abruptly in 1999, after which she went out of the public eye for several years. In 2003, Sable made a startling comeback after several years after her successful career in the company, surprising fans and her colleagues alike.
Her second run featured notable feuds with Torrie Wilson and Stephanie McMahon and a controversial storyline as Vince McMahon’s on-screen mistress. Despite her renewed success, Sable chose to walk away once again in 2004 to focus on her family.
Sable married Brock Lesnar in 2006 and now leads a quiet, private life with her family. She has three children: her daughter Mariah, from a previous marriage, and two sons with Lesnar—Turk, born in 2009, and Duke, born in 2010. While she’s now focused on family life, many believe that if she had continued her WWE career, she could have gone on to become one of the most iconic superstars in the company’s history.
