See Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva’s Backyard Renovation in Madrid

Richard Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, are fixing up their Madrid home — one step at a time.

“Working progress,” Silva, 42, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Thursday, June 11, sharing a video of their backyard landscaping plans.

The property sits on vast acreage, teeming with greenery and covered paths. Silva also planned to plant several smaller plants and flowers along the way.

Gere, 75, and Silva, who have been married since 2018, moved to her native Spain earlier this year.

“My wife is so happy there,” Gere told Page Six in April. “Her family is there, her culture is there, [our] youngest kids are growing up there, their Spanish is perfect.”

The Runaway Bride star previously explained that the couple, who previously raised their blended brood in upstate New York, had struck a deal early on in their marriage.

“My wife is Spanish, and she gave me about seven years here, so we’re going to spend some years in Madrid with her family,” Gere said during a November 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Our kids are bilingual, so they’re going to flourish there.”

Gere and Silva welcomed sons Alexander and James in February 2019 and April 2020, respectively. They each also have older children from past relationships. Gere shares son Homer, 25, with ex-wife Carey Lowell, while Silva coparents son Albert, 12, with ex-husband Govind Friedland.

Since moving, Gere has watched his family thrive.

“The truth is that you are seeing us in our momentum. We are happier than ever,” Gere told Elle España in January. “She is at home, and I [am] because, if she is happy, I am happy.”

He added, “We can all minimize this sense of ego, of the self. And that’s when true change occurs. My wife shines for her open-mindedness and her genuine sense of gratitude. So connecting with that, however you do it, whether you consider it spirit or religion, love or compassion… it’s infinite.”

Silva, meanwhile, told the outlet that Gere is often present with their sons after the move.

“Richard is a very devoted and present father. He loves to read them stories. It seems like an idyllic photo, but it’s true,” Silva said. “He’s a great dad. He doesn’t cook. I do it, but when I cook, he plays the guitar.”

Silva later told the Daily Mail that she and Gere planned to move back stateside after “a few years.”

“We’re always coming back,” she said in April. “We’ll come back here in the summer because we have the kids at camp. We just have to balance our lives there and here.”
