R. Kelly, once the king of R&B love songs, is now making headlines from a stage that is far more fitting for him: a prison cell. He’s currently serving a 30-year sentence (plus 20 more, though most of that overlaps) for serious crimes like racketeering, child p-rnography, and s-xually abusing minors.
But just when people thought the saga was over, Kelly’s back in the spotlight with a new claim. In a latest court filing, he’s asking to cut his time short, claiming his life’s in danger behind bars. He claims prison officials are plotting to have him killed. Here is what’s going on!
Inside R. Kelly’s shocking new prison claims…
According to a motion filed on June 10, R. Kelly alleges that officials at the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina, are actively trying to orchestrate his murder in an effort to silence him.
He says it all started when his former cellmate stole private legal communications and shared them with prosecutors, a serious breach of attorney-client privilege.

According to reports from Variety, Kelly’s legal team claims that prison staff tried to cover up the misconduct by allegedly offering a deal to a terminally ill inmate, Mikeal Glenn Stine, a known member of the Aryan Brotherhood, asking him to kill Kelly in exchange for freedom in his final days.
Stine didn’t go through with it, but Kelly says the threat remains. More gang members are reportedly arriving at the prison, and others have allegedly been approached to carry out the same mission.
To support these claims, Kelly’s attorneys submitted signed declarations from both Stine and the former cellmate who allegedly leaked the messages. Attorney Beau Brindley issued a statement to Billboard, accusing the Department of Justice of abusing its power and calling the situation a “weaponization” of the legal system against a public figure.
He has also asked President Donald Trump to intervene. Brindley says Trump is the only person with the power and courage to stop what he calls a corrupt legal campaign against Kelly.
Prosecutors hit back, reminding that Kelly is not exactly a victim!
Prosecutors wasted no time tearing into Kelly’s latest motion. First, they flagged a major blunder, as Kelly’s filing included the full name of one of the child victims from his trial, breaking strict rules meant to protect her identity. Judge Martha Pacold immediately commanded his legal team to refile it with the victim’s name properly redacted.

But it did not end there. Prosecutors came out calling the whole motion just another manipulative tactic from someone with a long track record of abuse. They wrote (via Billboard),
Robert Kelly is a serial s*xual predator, He even documented his s*xual abuse of children on film — creating child p*rnography — such that the abuse would live on in perpetuity. That abuse and harassment continues with defendant’s latest filing.
As far as the supposed murder plot, prosecutors didn’t directly refute the allegations in their filing but emphasized Kelly’s past as a reason to approach his claims with a pinch of salt.
With both of his convictions already upheld on appeal, they argue there’s no legitimate reason to reopen the case or reduce his sentence, no matter how dramatic the story.
The judge has scheduled a hearing for June 11 in Chicago. Until then, Kelly remains behind bars. Whether the court buys it or sees it as just another trick to reduce his sentence remains to be seen.
