For three nights straight, downtown LA has been a battleground. Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets, furious over what they see as a brutal and inhumane campaign targeting immigrant communities. By Sunday night, tear gas was in the air, rubber bullets were flying, and the city was left smoldering.
Here’s the thing: deploying the National Guard into a state without the governor’s consent is not normal. In fact, it’s so not normal that it hasn’t happened since 1965, when Lyndon B.
