One Piece: Imu’s Abilities Are Eerily Similar to Mythology’s Greatest Ruler That Has a Shanks Connection

Ever since Imu has taken the center stage in the Elbaph arc of One Piece, the narrative has become more thrilling than ever. From his authority as the Supreme Leader to his menacing personality, Imu has fully taken on the role of the main antagonist of One Piece. However, the one aspect of Imu’s character that has created the most suspense is his unique abilities.

In the recent chapters of the One Piece manga, Imu has displayed some of the most terrifying powers in history. These abilities have never been seen before in One Piece, and fans have developed multiple theories about how he is able to do all of this without breaking a sweat.

One of the most logical theories is that Imu is based on mythology’s greatest ruler, King Solomon, the fourth monarch of Israel and Judah. If this theory turns out to be true, it might also create a connection with Shanks’ past in One Piece.

Imu’s character might be inspired by King Solomon

The recent chapters of the One Piece manga have shown that not only does Imu have the power to take over the bodies of his subordinates, but he can even turn other characters into demons and employ them as his army. When he possessed Gunko’s body, he used a magic book and a technique called Domi Reversi to turn Dorry, Brogy, and a bunch of other giants into demons.

According to a One Piece theory posted by @BlacktyonteXavi on X, Imu parallels King Solomon in many different ways. The first is his ability to turn anyone into a demon and then use them as his own army. In mythology, King Solomon was given a special ring by Archangel Michael that allowed him to have control over demons and use them as he pleased.

The second parallel between Imu and King Solomon is the seal of Solomon symbol that looks exactly like the one on his magic book and the abyss, the magic circle that is used by the God’s Knight and Celestial Dragons to teleport. All these similarities point out that maybe Eiichiro Oda based Imu on King Solomon, as he has a habit of using mythological figures for One Piece character references.

Imu’s parallel with King Solomon might also reveal the truth about Shanks’ past

One of the most iconic lores about King Solomon is the two mothers’ story found in 1 Kings 3:16-28. According to the story, King Solomon was once approached by two different women claiming to be the mother of a single child. In order to reveal the real mother, King Solomon asked them to cut the baby in two. The real mother instantly decided to give up the baby to save his life, thus revealing the truth.

If the One Piece theory about Imu being based on King Solomon turns out to be true, it can give rise to another speculation where Imu might have done something similar with Figarland Garling. There is a chance that he might have forced Garling to give up one of his sons to test his loyalty, and he essentially decided to give up Shanks and keep Shamrock.

While this theory contradicts Shamrock’s comment about Shanks choosing the life of a pirate on his own, it does give more perspective to the relationship of the Figarland family and Imu’s involvement in it. Hopefully, the upcoming One Piece chapters will shed more light on these mysteries within the story.

One Piece manga is currently available to read on Viz Media.
