One of Obsidian Entertainment’s most highly anticipated games, Grounded 2, was recently announced during the Xbox Games Showcase. An official gameplay trailer was dropped, and it was confirmed that the game would be released in early access next month.
At the moment, it is confirmed that the game is coming to Xbox Series X/S and Windows; however, the executive producer has dropped a hint that it might also be released on other platforms in the future. After all, the game’s predecessor, Grounded, was one of the first four Xbox exclusives released on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch last year.
Obsidian Entertainment hopes to release Grounded 2 on other platforms as well

Grounded 2‘s exciting gameplay trailer has confirmed that the game will be released on Xbox Series X/S and Windows on July 29, 2025, through Xbox Game Preview and Steam Early Access. The announcement disappointed all PlayStation and Switch fanboys; however, they still have some hope.
In a recent interview with IGN, the executive producer of Obsidian Entertainment’s Grounded 2, Marcus Morgan, hinted that the game could be released on PlayStation consoles and the new Switch 2. He said,
I will say that I’m so, so happy for Grounded 1 that we were able to go on all those platforms – At the end of the day, we have a little tagline of ride together, survive together. This game to me, is about playing together with your friends no matter where they play. And so our goal always is to reach as many players as possible. We’ll start off with this, we’ll see where it goes in the future.
Grounded 2‘s PlayStation and Switch release is bound to happen since Grounded was well-received by fans on PlayStation consoles when it was released for PS4 and PS5 in 2024. Microsoft is eager to share its exclusives with Sony, so PlayStation fans will most likely get to experience the game soon.
When is Grounded 2 coming to PlayStation consoles and Switch 2?

Grounded was released in early access in 2020 and was fully released two years later, on September 27, 2022. Obsidian plans to take the same route again: a period of early access to improve the game and then a full release. Grounded was released for PS4, PS5, and Switch in 2024, so we should expect Grounded 2 to release on other platforms by 2028-29.
We can also expect the game to release on other platforms sooner, given that Obsidian has analysed the first game’s development to ensure it can easily overcome the problems it initially faced. Morgan added that the sequel is set up to be much more expandable, and it’s up to the developers to decide when to release the full game. It is to be noted that Obsidian also has other projects lined up for 2025, so Grounded 2 isn’t their only priority right now.
The studio will review how players react to the new game mechanics, and after everything is brushed up, we can expect the game to release on other platforms.
