The protagonist of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Koichi Haimawari, in many aspects, feels like an updated version of his predecessor, Izuku Midoriya from the original My Hero Academia series. The development of both main characters is quite similar as they balance their lives along with managing their passion for saving the world.
However, there is one aspect where Koichi exceeds Izuku, and that’s having a quirk. While Izuku was born quirkless and then received one of the greatest quirks of all time, Koichi was born with a quite mediocre quirk. His quirk is called slide and glide, and as the story moves forward, it is revealed that his quirk can be used for more than sliding and gliding.
One of these updates of his quirk was seen in the recent episode of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, where his quirk felt like the cursed technique reversal: red that was used by Gojo Satoru, one of the most popular Jujutsu Kaisen characters.
Koichi’s quirk finally gets a new development
Koichi’s quirk, slide and glide, is not one of the most powerful or effective quirks within the story, but it gets the job done. It allows him to slide over different kinds of surfaces by releasing a repelling force mostly from his hands and feet. He can change the pace of his sliding and even slide over walls, and this repulsive force can be emitted from any part of his body.

Episode 9, the most recent installment in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, saw an evolution in Koichi’s quirk as he tried to save Makoto from the accident. Koichi exerted a repulsive force from his feet that was strong enough to make him fly for a small amount of time, which was enough for him to hand Makoto to Ingenium and save the day.
This was the first time My Hero Academia: Vigilantes fans saw Koichi use this technique, and it was quite thrilling. It not only proved that quirks can evolve depending on the situation, but also gave a new power to the protagonist of the series, which will definitely come in handy as the story moves towards more dangerous developments.
Koichi’s quirk is quite similar to Gojo’s red reversal technique
The new evolution that Koichi’s quirk received in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is certainly a big development for his character and for the narrative. However, what’s more interesting is that it draws a lot of parallels with Gojo Satoru’s Cursed Technique Reversal: Red, which is an extension of his most powerful inherited ability, Limitless in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Koichi’s new power allows him to exert a pushing force from his feet, and most likely from his hands, that can allow him to literally fly.

If he manages to perfect the technique and exert even more power through it, he might be able to blast things off, which could turn his quirk into an offensive ability. It can grant him the thrust that he needs against his opponents.

When he gets to that level, his technique will resemble Gojo’s red, which is a huge sphere that detonates with a powerful repelling force and has the potential to create unprecedented devastation. Hopefully, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes fans will get to see Koichi exert this kind of power in the future.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
