Marvel Rivals Lore Claim Ultron Just Wants to Be Loved, and It’s Wildly Off-Brand for the Supervillain

It’s been a couple of weeks since Marvel Rivals players got their hands on Ultron, the flying strategist Hero. Even after being known as the ultimate supervillain in the comics, NetEase released the character as a Support. Sounds a bit odd, right? Well, that’s not it. Wait till we discuss a lore on Reddit, revealing an undiscovered side of your favorite supervillain from the comic.

You might have some information on Ultron if you’re a Marvel movie buff. However, if you take a deep dive into the comics, you’ll realize there are not only one but multiple versions of the peackeeping AI that have appeared in different media sources. The Reddit post in the r/marvelrivals thread only discusses the off-brand characteristics of Xtron, an ultimate and aggressive form of the AI.

Ultron As We Know Him From The Comics

Ultron was created by Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema. A villain from the Captain Video comic book mainly inspired the initial concept and the appearance of the supervillain. If you’ve read Avengers #54, you’ll discover that Dr. Hank Pym was fond of experimenting with the science behind Artificial Intelligence, as he created an AI based on his thoughts and memory engrams.

The story of Ultron starts when the AI rebels against its programming and defeats the doctor. The creators were way ahead of their time, presenting the AI as a self-learning algorithm. The supervillain tends to improve itself every time it faces a loss against the Avengers.

In the latter part of the comics, we see a much more humanized form of the AI, destined to diminish humanity. He even created another android using the brain pattern of Wonder Man and the body of Human Torch, named Vision. At a later point, the powerful android seemed to differ with the supervillain’s agenda and helped the Avengers defeat him.

Later in the story, the genocidal robot finally gets hold of the adamantium, and he takes over the world with the help of millions of his subordinates, fulfilling his agenda to achieve world peace by eliminating entire humanity. When Pym confronted his creation in the comics, the advanced AI mocked his creator, mentioning him as the darker version of the doctor. No, we’re not talking about the dark side or Sith Lord.

Jokes aside, it’s quite evident that the Ultron we know wants to assert dominance over all man and machine, no matter who or what the person or thing is. As we see the character arc of the supervillain, you’ll realize how he never gave up on his mission and kept improving himself to destroy humanity. However, the story gets more interesting where a recent Reddit post from u/red_enjoyer revealed an unexpected side of the strategist.

Ain’t no way Ultron is daddy’s boy 💀

In Marvel Rivals‘ recent “Father and Sons” lore drop, it was revealed how much Ultron cares about his creator, Hank Pym. When Tony Stark threatened to wipe his memories of Pym, the killer robot got sentimental and revealed his daddy issues in front of the Avengers.

The issue became clearer in the Reddit post, which claimed that Ultron reveals his latent desire to properly use his time-traveling power and get back to the era when Pym created him, seeking the unconditional love and adoration he deserves. Even though he isn’t sure whether he’ll receive it, he has the right to dream, right?

This comment showcases an emotional side of the supervillain, potentially featuring an Oedipus Complex, too. We must appreciate NetEase for bringing such narratives into the lore where players are discussing a character’s gravitas, not the title’s competitive side.

Ultron’s story proves the old saying right: no one is born as a villain. It is truly the path that Marvel’s anti-hero had to take, which guided him towards the destination he ended up reaching.

What’s your take on this unexpected side of Dr Pym’s creation? Do share your thoughts in the comments below.
