Mario Kart World’s Movement Is Wildly Abusable and Speedrunners Are Loving It

One of the first games for Nintendo’s Switch 2, Mario Kart World, was released earlier this month as a launch game for the Switch 2. What was expected to be the most advanced Mario Kart game has turned out to be a disaster, as many players have reported that the game is “completely broken.” The game features a lot of new mechanics to give players a better racing experience, but no one expected wall-riding tricks that would allow players to gain an advantage.

It is to be noted that Mario Kart World is one of the first few games to reach a price tag of $80. The game is undoubtedly responsible for setting a new standard, yet it is an unfinished product.

Players are abusing Mario Kart World‘s new game mechanics

The all-new Mario Kart World features some brand new mechanics, such as the Charge Jump move that allows players to jump onto rails and chain wall rides to gather boost. This move not only gives players a boost but also allows them to go off track and use the walls to cut track easily to shave off a few seconds.

SummoningSalt, a well-known speedrunner, has declared that the game is “completely broken,” as a reply to a clip shared by APXMK on X. The clip shows that the player used different structures on the track to glide through a section quickly. Currently, it’s hard to say if Nintendo intentionally allows the off-track structures to give players an advantage. This completely defeats the purpose of having a track.

All of this is possible primarily because of these three new features: Charged jumps, rail grinding, and wall riding. The new mechanics allow players to use anything, literally anything, as a medium to get more boost. This is just one of the few new tricks that players have discovered to gain an unfair advantage.

Will Nintendo roll out balance changes to solve this problem?

These types of moves have allowed players to take unintended shortcuts to finish a lap with a time that is impossible to beat if players take the normal path. The community strongly believes that Nintendo will roll out balance changes in the future to solve this problem. Ultimately, the time on time trials will hold no value if players continue to abuse the mechanics.

This is extremely embarrassing if this was unintentional, because Mario Kart World is not a cheap game. The game was released with a price tag of $79.99, which by today’s standards is a lot. The Nintendo Switch 2 itself is pricey, but increasing the price of a video game like this was a move that shocked everyone.

Many have blamed Nintendo for setting a new industry standard. Xbox also announced that it will increase the prices of all Xbox consoles, video games, accessories, and first-party games.
