Madhouse isn’t just a mere name, but it has weight to it. The animation studio has given us some of the massive hits over the decades. From Death Note to Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, their works are beyond impressive.
Then there’s One Punch Man that has its cherished fanbase, come to think of it. One of the reasons behind this is the Director, Shingo Natsume. He graced the industry with his brilliance, and his new project seeks to outdo this.
His collaboration with Madhouse for the upcoming movie seems favorable. It looks promising and refreshing, but there might be several reasons why this might exceed the audience’s expectations. How so? Well, let’s unpack this!
Madhouse and One Punch Man director announces new flick

If there’s one word to describe Madhouse, it’s versatile. The studio has worked on an array of projects over the years. Be it shojo, shonen, or seinen, their roster spans different genres and that’s exactly what makes them so good.
They’re hailed for their excellent animation, finesse, and brilliance. The animators truly deserve to be hyped and one such man is Natsume Shingo. He is the man behind One Punch Man anime, especially the first season.
Interestingly, his bond with the studio goes beyond OPM anime. He has previously worked on Tatami Galaxy and Sonny Boy. Both productions were animated by the same studio, and they’re back with yet another collab.

This time, Shingo is all set to serve and slay with his upcoming movie Ghost. Not much is known about this film project except that it is a collaboration between the director and the studio. But this sure as heck looks phenomenal!
His previous works are commendable, to say the least. Tatami Galaxy, Space Dandy, and Sonny Boy are some of the most well-appreciated yet underrated works by the Director. However, Ghost might exceed his previous works!
Ghost might exceed the audience’s expectations

Now you may wonder how or why this movie seems all the more promising. Well, when we think about anime films, they do well if they break free from conventional storytelling. They shift paradigms that consist of cliché tropes.
Anime films are popular for several reasons. They cater to the popular narratives while being unconventional. Miyazaki, Makoto Shinkai, and even Satoshi Kon left an indelible mark on their work.
Natsume Shingo isn’t a Ghibli guy, nor is he remotely associated with Makoto Shinkai or Satoshi Kon. Rather, he carved his own niche by working on diverse projects. His roster is impressive, and that makes Ghost all the more appealing.

Also, Ghost is his first film, which makes it even more unique and special. His first anime was Space Dandy. When we look at his previous works, we know one thing for sure. He has come so far, and this might be his breakthrough as a Director.
This isn’t merely a passion project for Shingo, but it brings a dream team of artists together. The Madhouse animators are known for their craftsmanship. Then there’s Natsume Ono and Norifumi Kugai, who worked in ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept.
All in all, this looks promising, yes. But it also has fans’ hopes and expectations all hyped up. It would be a total joyride for us anime fans; nonetheless, we hope that this movie raises the bar!
Ghost is scheduled for release in 2027. One Punch Man is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
