“Let’s make him gay too”: Joe Rogan Loved Game of Thrones Season 8 Except the Grand Finale

It’s been six years since the HBO hit, Game of Thrones, came to a controversial conclusion, one that left many disappointed, including the popular podcaster Joe Rogan. Known for his candid commentary, Rogan admitted to enjoying the final season overall, but the series finale, in particular, didn’t sit well with him.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s book series, the show had a remarkable eight-season run on HBO, becoming one of the biggest TV series of all time. However, the finale was widely criticized for feeling rushed, emotionally flat, and ultimately unsatisfying.

Joe Rogan didn’t like the Game of Thrones series finale

Despite its long-celebrated run on HBO over eight seasons, the Game of Thrones series finale failed to land well with fans and critics alike. It has been widely criticized, with many considering it one of the most disappointing series finales of all time.

Major points of contention included the rushed handling of the White Walker storyline, Jon Snow’s diminished role, Cersei’s underwhelming end, and Bran’s unexpected rise to kingship, something which also did not sit well with The Joe Rogan Experience host.

In a previous conversation with comedian Greg Fitzsimmons, Joe Rogan noted that though he enjoyed the finale season, it was the very grand finale, The Iron Throne, that soured the experience for him.

I thought the last season was excellent up until the last episode,” he said, expressing frustration with the way the story was wrapped up. Rogan also criticized the decision to make Bran Stark the king, sarcastically suggesting that the writers added random elements like “making him gay” to wrap things up quickly and sloppily.

Last episode was like, ‘How do we end this? Let’s make the guy in the wheelchair King. Let’s make him gay too.

Fitzsimmons agreed with Rogan’s take, arguing that the showrunners avoided bold or meaningful risks in the finale. Instead, they played it safe, an approach that led to what many have described as one of the most lackluster conclusions in television history.

Game of Thrones makes amends for the disappointing ending with the new game

Ever since the disappointing Game of Thrones series finale, fans have come up with their alternate endings with scenarios they believe could have been a more satisfying conclusion to the iconic series.

These fan-crafted endings include a more justified downfall for Daenerys, Jon Snow fulfilling the Azor Ahai prophecy by defeating the Night King, or Arya assassinating Cersei while wearing Jaime’s face, offering a deeper, more interconnected resolution.

Now, a new upcoming game titled War for Westeros is set to give fans a chance to create their own version of events. The real-time strategy game will allow players to take command of major Westerosi houses like Stark, Lannister, Targaryen, or even the Night King.

Set during the War of the Five Kings, the game offers both solo and multiplayer modes, allowing players to conquer the Seven Kingdoms and rewrite the story, including its ending.

“In War for Westeros, you’ll relive iconic turning points from the Game of Thrones series or forge your own rise to power,” said director Ryan McMahon in a statement, as he emphasized, “The outcome is yours to decide.”

By putting the power in the hands of the players, War for Westeros may finally provide longtime fans the opportunity to craft the ending they always wanted, one that could bring some closure after the show’s controversial finale.

Game of Thrones is available to watch on Max in the USA. And War for Westeros is set to release in 2026.
