Kai Schreiber is opening up about her transgender identity — and how it led her to wanting to model.
“Struggling with gender identity from a young age most likely had something to do with it,” she explained to Interview magazine in a June 2025 interview. “I always wanted to grow up and be a beautiful, glamorous and influential woman.”
Last month, Kai’s dad, Liev Schreiber, got candid about what it has been like raising a trans daughter. (Liev shares Kai and son Sasha with ex Naomi Watts. He also shares daughter Hazel Bee with Taylor Schreiber.)
“Kai is such a fighter,” Liev told Variety in a May 2025 interview. “It’s important that she goes, ‘Hey, I am trans,’ and, ‘Look at me,’ and, ‘F*** you. F*** off.’”

Liev went on to share that if someone is having “trouble with their adolescent trans kid” it’s because “teenagers are a f***ing headache.”
“It doesn’t matter whether they’re trans or not because you’ll come out of this,” he told the outlet. “But a trans teen is going to be a teen. They’re such a pain in the ass so much of the time, and Kai is as feisty and outspoken as they come.”

“As a young trans girl, I’m always going to look up to the older generation of transgender people, especially in fashion,” she told Interview magazine in a June 2025 interview. “People like Alex Consani, Hunter Schafer, Hari Nef, Dara, Richie Shazam, Colin Jones, and so many more. It’s so great that there’s a strong community of us in the fashion world; it’s really a doll takeover. It’s important to all of us to have a sense of community, especially when we’re under such a hostile attack.”
