Jurassic World: Rebirth Box Office Prediction Fuels Speculation That It’ll Repeat a Franchise Record

July is stacked with some of the most anticipated releases of the year, whether it’s James Gunn’s Superman, Brad Pitt’s F1, or the introduction of the MCU’s first family, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This reasonably had fans concerned about Jurassic World: Rebirth‘s legs at the box office, especially after being cut off from Imax screenings in North America.

But according to early tracking, the next installment in the franchise is apparently eying a strong domestic start, meaning the billion-dollar threshold might not be out of reach.

Jurassic World: Rebirth eyes to maintain the franchise’s most impressive feat

1995 was an extraordinary year for Steven Spielberg, who delivered on both fronts with Schindler’s List and Jurassic Park, both of which have stood the test of time.

Jurassic Park, being a franchise starter, translated well into the 21st century amidst the rise of IP-driven releases. Throughout the franchise’s run, it has consistently managed to surpass the $1B mark with every release (barring the first one, which reached the landmark after a 2013 re-release), regardless of the critical reception.

But given the shifts in box-office trends, where notable IPs no longer guarantee box-office highs, some felt Rebirth might have a tough time recouping its money as compared to its predecessors.

This sentiment essentially stemmed from its box-office competition against F1, Superman, and then The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

However, per early box-office predictions, Jurassic World: Rebirth might continue the franchise’s trend of hitting a billion, as the movie is currently eyeing a potential $100-125M opening weekend on the domestic market (via The Hollywood Handle).

Moreover, considering that historically the international market has done the heavy lifting in terms of the IP’s box-office riches, including Dominion‘s $626M collection from its total of $1B, another billion-dollar hit seems likely.

Jurassic World: Rebirth will be akin to the classics than the modern trilogy

Although dominating the box-office charts has never been a major hurdle for the franchise, in terms of critical reception, the series hasn’t delivered on the highest order since Spielberg’s Jurassic Park.

Dominion, despite hitting a $1B, opened to divisive reviews, and in order to combat the franchise’s critical shortcomings, with Rebirth, they’re scaling back on the scope and going back to the IP’s roots.

David Koepp said (via Comicbookmovie.com):

We wanted to recapture the idea that we are in the dinosaurs’ environment. The last few movies were exploring the idea of, ‘Hey, what would it be like if they were in our environment?’ They did that very well, and now we wanted to explore how it felt to go back to theirs.

This is evident from its reported $180M budget, as while not a small amount by any means, it is a major step back from Dominion‘s reported $465M budget. Not only does this mean the new movie has some more room to breathe compared to its predecessors, even if it doesn’t pull numbers similar to the last few entries, it might still prove to be a hit for the studio.

Jurassic World: Rebirth is set to hit theatres on 4 July 2025.
