Even though HBO is busy bringing together a whole new roster of fresh faces for their Harry Potter series, nothing could ever come close to the cast of the original HP movies. Part of the reason is the connection and friendship between them, which continues to remain just the same even decades after the last film.
Two of the actors that fans love to see interact are Jason Isaacs and Tom Felton, who played the fan-favorite father-son duo in the OG movies, Lucius and Draco Malfoy, respectively. Even after all this time, the two of them continue to remain close, and Isaacs recently celebrated his on-screen son’s return to the world of Harry Potter with some warm words that clash with his on-screen character and his legacy.
Jason Isaacs celebrates Tom Felton’s achievement, accidentally dragging his Harry Potter legacy

It couldn’t be a more exciting time to be a Potterhead, given HBO’s casting announcements for their upcoming HP series and a surprising new development. It was recently revealed that Tom Felton, who portrayed Draco Malfoy in the original films, will be returning to the Wizarding World as Draco in Broadway’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
While fans are happy and elated, his on-screen father in the franchise, Jason Isaacs, who did hear about this, is immensely proud. In a recent Instagram post, the White Lotus star celebrated Felton’s achievement and wrote: What a birthday present. Can’t wait son- that’ll be me in the front row with something in my eye. X
He also went on to repost an adorable video of Felton where the Flash star had revealed that they still refer to each other as son and dad in real life on X. Remarking that the tickets are booked for November, the actor praised his ‘son.’
The heartfelt posts had fans buzzing, but it’s a stark departure from the icy, abusive patriarch Lucius, sparking chatter about Isaacs’ legacy. While his post, dripping with paternal pride, painted him as a supportive and loving dad, his on-screen character, Lucius, was never that.
His real-life bond with Felton, forged over eight films, is the complete opposite, feeling like a loving rewrite of Lucius Malfoy’s legacy. Well, while this heartwarming interaction has left fans buzzing and amazed, fans couldn’t help but quip, ‘His father DID hear about this!’ highlighting the irony.
Jason Isaacs celebrates the casting of the new Lucius Malfoy

HBO’s Harry Potter series has found its Draco and Lucius Malfoy. While newcomer Lox Pratt will be starring as the tall, pale-skinned, white-blonde hair, and cold grey-eyed boy, Johnny Flynn will be starring as his on-screen father.
Flynn worked with Isaacs in a 2021 historical war drama called Operation Mincemeat, and the former Harry Potter star welcomed the newcomer in an X post, writing, ‘A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too. Couldn’t have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don’t make him sing…’
In an Instagram video, the White Lotus star again praised his former co-star by stating:
It’s sensational news for ‘Harry Potter’ fans, of which I am. Johnny is a brilliant actor. We did a film called ‘Operation Mincemeat’ together and I adored him, as you will too when you see him in the show. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with. Johnny, if you ever watch this, enjoy yourself and top tip: Watch out for those elves, those pointy-eared backstabbing little bastards! Have fun. I’ll see you in Hogwarts.
Unlike Lucius Malfoy, Jason Isaacs is warm and loving, and his blessing for Johnny Flynn as HBO’s new Lucius shows he is passing the torch and the keys for Malfoy Manor gracefully. Some might say that his warmth does not drag his Harry Potter legacy but rather enhances it, making sure his Potter legacy is remembered with affection, not disdain.
The Harry Potter movies are available to stream on HBO Max.
