Rent-a-Girlfriend was an immensely popular series that flew too high before it crashed and fell. The past few years, the author has taken the fans for a ride, making them struggle between hope and despair, constantly denying them a happy ending. The story is about Kazuya, who strives to turn his rented girlfriend (yes) into a real one.
A lot of fans abandoned the manga due to the frustrating arcs, and the readers who stuck to the series to see it through, hoping for a beautiful ending, were bound to be disappointed. Reiji Miyama struck again, with a massive twist that even the most pessimistic of fans couldn’t have expected.
A massive and frustrating twist that doesn’t make any sense
The Rent-a-Girlfriend manga has 380 chapters and started in 2017. The story was a unique one. The protagonist (male lead), Kazuya, is an average guy who was dumped by his girlfriend.

This leads to him using the rent-a-girlfriend service of the Diamond App, where he meets Chizuru Ichinose, a rental girlfriend. After the initial chaos (during which both Kazuya and Chizuru dislike each other), they start to grow closer.
There are some circumstances that put them together, like Kazuya’s grandmother Nagomi taking a liking to Chizuru, and Chizuru shifting to the apartment next to Kazuya’s.
Better to learn this lesson from a manga than to learn it in real life

Until this point, Rent-a-Girlfriend sounds like your usual romcom that has a heartwarming ending. But from here on, things become extremely unpredictable.
Rent a girlfriend is so fascinating because it looks like absolutely dog shit but this most recent chapter is making everyone mad because acts of kindness do not guarantee you sex with a woman https://t.co/MG1V6wcNHv

I think the funny thing about this is that 360 chapters in shes just not interested and could have told him 20 chapters in….it’s just a bad manga

Kazuya does his best to care for Chizuru, being there for her emotionally and making a lot of effort to impress her. Chizuru seems to grow closer to Kazuya, but at times inexplicably pulls apart, regressing their relationship.
A heartfelt confession that couldn’t be rejected
Now, the latest chapter (Chapter 380) of Rent-a-Girlfriend shows Kazuya’s heartfelt confession to Chizuru, which she unexpectedly rejects. This happens after Chizuru has kissed Kazuya and indicated she has feelings for him.

Chizuru rejects Kazuya, stating that although she loves him and has feelings for him, she is not sure about them. Then she proceeds to say that in the circumstances that she is in, she cannot juggle her work, her dream, and a relationship with him.
During this time, she seems to be taunting him as she brings out Kazuya’s mother’s ring and talks about how she cannot accept it, even if she wants to. She bows before him and apologizes to him for rejecting him. Kazuya tries to tough it out and leaves, clenching his fists and gritting his teeth.

After all the development and the chemistry between the two, Chizuru and Kazuya had to end up together. It felt forced and unreasonable, the way Chizuru had rejected Kazuya after all the efforts he had put in.
Especially when she seemed to have accepted him as well, it makes it seem like Kazuya was led on, only to be rejected. It is not confirmed when the manga will be concluded, but many fans believe that the romance manga cannot have a happy ending.
