The isekai genre was a novelty, a fresh idea that seemed to have limitless potential a decade or so back. Be it the aspect of transmigration or the wonder-filled world that a normal human from Earth can behold, all of it was incredibly interesting. But as the genre gained traction, more and more stories were pumped out under the same genre.
This meant that with the increase in quantity, the standards of the fans gradually grew as well. As isekai tales increased, the genre grew more and more saturated. At some point, it felt like every new anime was a mixture of already seen tropes. The Beginning After The End, being an isekai (and late to the party), was never going to fare well.
The Isekai formula strikes again… and misses
The isekai genre is proliferated with many generic, run-of-the-mill anime. It has the same talented prodigy of a protagonist, the same magic and swords, dragons and elves, not to mention they all seem to start with the same angry truck.
Although there are a few good titles like Mushoku Tensei, Reincarnated as a Slime, and Re: Zero, these are few and far between. The rest of the titles are the equivalent of junk food, something to munch on, but they cannot really satiate your hunger.
The Beginning After The End is a brilliant tale about the journey of a king who had it all. The incredible world-building and detailed character development were its niches and could have elevated the story to the next level.
I keep hearing how The Beginning After the End is the worst thing ever, but I’m catching up a bit for hottest trash and honestly it’s slightly above average for a shitty isekai?
People really underestimate how shitty shitty isekai can get

But being adapted into an anime in a genre that is fiercely competitive wasn’t he best choice for TBATE, especially since there were many flaws with the narration and the animation. Fans are not far off when they are calling the complex character that is Arthur Leywin, a ‘John Doe’.
TBATE was not going to be the rarest of the rare
There is fierce competition among the isekai titles, and only the best of the best make it out. This is not just about the story, but how it is told, the animation, even the soundtracks, everything matters.
The Beginning After The End, despite its incredible storytelling, was not going to be one of these rare few. There were just too many variables. It was not likely that with a subpar studio, it would get too far.
TBATE might be novel and interesting for webnovel fans, but for the anime fans who are ruthless and decisive, even the smallest of flaws are clearly visible.

Not to mention the flaws and plot holes in TBATE make it seem like a sponge. TBATE did have potential, which cannot be denied. But as an isekai, it had to be extremely unique and well-made to be recognized and stand out.
