Apple has officially rolled out iOS 26 Developer Beta 1, and today we’re walking through the full installation process using the safe, free method directly from Apple’s own developer platform.

This isn’t just another tutorial — it’s the actual step-by-step guide for installing iOS 26 without needing a paid developer account or any third-party tools. This method is 100% official and doesn’t involve risky downloads or unofficial sources.
Important: Installing an early beta on your primary device is not recommended. Beta versions can cause overheating, battery drainage, and performance issues. I’m testing it on a secondary device where I can afford to lose data.
Backup Before You Begin
Before diving into the update, back up your iPhone running iOS 18. You can do this via:
- iCloud
- Mac
- Windows PC
- Another iPhone
Once iOS 26 is installed, its backup won’t be compatible with iOS 18. If you plan to downgrade later and haven’t saved your current data, you risk losing everything.
Supported Devices
You’ll need:
- iPhone 11 or newer
- Devices older than iPhone 11 (like XR, XS, XS Max) are not supported.
Installation Process (Free & Official Method)
- Open Safari (not Chrome) on your iPhone.
- Visit: developer.apple.com
- Sign in with your Apple ID.
- Tap the menu (☰) → Account
(If you don’t have a developer account, create one. It’s now free—Apple recently removed the $99/year fee.) - Once signed in, go to your iPhone’s:
- Settings → General → Software Update
- Tap Beta Updates
- Select iOS 26 Developer Beta
The update should now appear. It’s around 16GB, though it won’t consume that much permanent space.
Performance & Battery Warning
Installing early beta software may:
- Increase device temperature
- Cause rapid battery degradation
- Reduce overall battery health
As shown, my iPhone has 234 charge cycles and still maintains 100% battery health — but this can change quickly under a beta.
Recap
- No need for third-party downloads
- Free access via developer.apple.com
- Only works on iPhone 11 and newer
- Backup your data before installing
- Be ready for bugs, crashes, and battery drain
Nabeel ends the video saying he’ll explore new features of iOS 26 in a follow-up, but today’s focus was all about helping users install the beta safely and correctly.
