Hideo Kojima is regarded as a legend within the gaming community, and once again, he is all set to prove why he has earned that title with the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. He started his career at Konami and later founded Kojima Productions within Konami.
It’s hard to imagine someone else taking over Kojima at Kojima Productions, but he is prepared for that day. He has one condition: No one at the company must replicate what he has created. He strongly believes that the company would not succeed if someone else tried to imitate what he did. Kojima has thought about the future and has even created a USB full of ideas that his successors can use after his death.
Hideo Kojima thinks his company will not succeed if his successors imitate what he does

Hideo Kojima always had a strong passion for film and literature, which has allowed him to create some exceptional video games. Setting up Kojima Productions took many years and a lot of hard work, so Kojima wants to make sure that his successors don’t make this one mistake while creating games after he is gone.
While talking about the future of Kojima Productions without him, Kojima told British GQ that he has no plans of passing the baton to anyone, because he doesn’t want anyone to imitate what he did. He said,
I am not going to pass the baton to anyone – I will rather crush the baton… [Laughs] I don’t need to give ‘Hideo Kojima’ to anyone. If I pass the baton to my staff and tell them to make things the same way I do, the company will not succeed and will go out of business.
Kojima is glad that he has inspired many other developers around the world, but he thinks copying him would be a bad idea. A lot goes into the process of developing a video game, and if anyone just blatantly copies what he does without putting any thought into it, that project is bound to fail. Kojima turns 62 next month, but he has no plans of stopping anytime soon, as he is working on projects like OD and Physint. Plus, he is also working with A24 to create a Death Stranding movie.
Hideo Kojima has a USB full of ideas for video games

Kojima is well-prepared for the day when someone takes over Kojima Productions. He recently revealed that he has created a USB drive full of video game ideas because he doesn’t want his company to just manage existing IPs. He told Edge Magazine that the storage device is like his will, so his successors have plenty of ideas when he is gone.
Kojima isn’t retiring soon, but he has been doing this because his life changed when he was seriously ill during the COVID-19 pandemic. He was unable to create anything and saw “people around me passing away.” This made him reevaluate his priorities, so Kojima has thought a lot about the future.
At the moment, he is excited to give players one of the most highly anticipated games of 2025, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which is all set to release only for the PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025.
