The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 was packed with tons of exciting announcements. However, the title that really caught my eye was Grounded 2. Developer Obsidian Entertainment revealed a trailer for the successor to the 2010 hit at the showcase and shocked everyone.
Grounded 2 is planning to bring new opportunities for co-op survival, alongside new enemies to fight, and weapons to carry. I genuinely can’t wait to see how this entry manages to elevate the original experience. However, it would be a massive shame if the game fails to address one of Grounded’s biggest mysteries that still keeps me up at night.
Grounded 2 must tell us who the fifth teen was
When you first jump into Grounded, everything seems simple. All you need to do is choose between four teens: Max, Willow, Pete, and Hoops. These characters are unique in their own ways and make the co-op experience fun. However, what you might not know is that there was also a 5th teen in Grounded.
So, who is this teen? Well, there’s nothing much to go on about. The only thing we know is that, apparently, they woke up before the other four teens. In the in-game world, you can come across this teen’s abandoned campsite, which includes a functional Lean-To and a unique trinket that depicts a dudces sign.
With this trinket, you can gain a speed boost when damaging a spider. This means that the fifth teen also had a close encounter with one. Although the trinket’s description does imply that the teen was able to escape the wrath of the spider, millions of other players and I have never found them in the game.
The fifth teen’s fate is one of the biggest mysteries of Grounded. I have seen some in the community speculate that the teen could be one of the unmarked bodies found in the yard. Others believe that monsters might’ve abducted the teen.
With Grounded 2 right around the corner, I believe Obsidian Entertainment has the perfect opportunity to open up about the mysterious identity of the fifth teen. Heck, even small playable flashbacks and notes would be enough. All I want is for Obsidian not to abandon this plot point, as it’s really twisted and dark when you think about it.
When is Grounded 2 coming out?
If you’re excited to shrink and jump back into the oversized world of Grounded 2, you won’t have to wait much. It’s been confirmed that Grounded 2 will be released on Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview on July 29th, 2025.
What about the full release date? That’s something we still don’t have any idea about. The original Grounded was first announced in 2019, and the game went into Early Access in 2020, with the full release coming in 2022. If the sequel follows a similar pattern, we could see it getting a full release in 2027.
Grounded 2 will be available on day-one release on Xbox Series S/X and PC. Although a PlayStation or Nintendo release hasn’t been confirmed, the original game was released on PS4, PS5, and Switch in 2024.
