When fans think about Jujutsu Kaisen, all the spectacle and attention are stolen by a single character. Contrary to what one might expect, it is not the main character, Yuji Itadori, but Satoru Gojo.
Gojo is arguably one of the most intriguing and appealing characters in all of anime history. His demeanor, strength, and charisma all command a certain sense of worship that far surpasses any other character in Jujutsu Kaisen.
In Jujutsu Kaisen, there is another character whose aura arguably eclipses even Satoru’s. This character was incredibly powerful and had limitless potential, yet was given barely any screen time. That man is none other than Toji Fushiguro.
Toji’s aura was fit for a main character
Toji Fushiguro is the father of Megumi Fushiguro. He has a legendary past. Despite being one of the members of the Three Great Clans (Zenin), famed for being skilled sorcerers, Toji did not have any curse-related powers.

Despite this, his power and combat skills were unparalleled, leading to him being dubbed “The Sorcerer Killer”, an assassin who reaped the lives of even the most elite of sorceresses. Toji had a pure main character aura. His being different from all others, essentially making him unique, screams important. It might remind the fans of a certain boy who wants to be ‘The Wizard King’.
Being shunned by his clan and treated as a weakling, Toji set out to find his own path. Toji had a Heavenly Restriction, which is a binding vow that reduces your cursed energy and increases physical ability. Toji couldn’t use curse energy, but to compensate for that, he had an incredibly powerful body and extremely keen senses.
In the end, it can be said that in a world of curse magicians, Toji is the sole knight. A better description would be ‘assassin’, as Toji built his reputation up by slaying and assassinating many strong curse sorcerers, to the extent that even the Six Eyes Gojo Satoru lost when Toji targeted him.
Unlimited potential, but not enough screentime
Toji had immense potential. Be it as an ally or a villain, Gege Akutami could have utilized him to become a key character that could raise the stakes. Although Toji’s role in the series was impressive and strong, it felt limited and restricted.

It might have been an intentional choice to give Toji Fushiguro less screen time. After all, a character like Gojo already stole enough spotlight from the main character.
Toji didn’t need a Limitless technique or a Six Eyes advantage to show astonishing power. With zero cursed energy and a complete rejection of sorcerer norms, Toji’s presence in the series was such that he could have been the sole maverick and an outlier.
As Gojo’s enemy and Megumi’s father, the narrative significance of Toji is shown to be high from the beginning, which immediately sets him apart. There’s no posturing or flashy monologue when it comes to him, just pure aggression. Blink, and the enemy won’t have a head anymore.
Overall, Toji Fushiguro had a main character template, but that’s all it was. In a world of uncertainties, be it Gojo or Toji, anyone can fall. After all, even the Demon King was once divided up into fingers.
