Game of Thrones Star Makes Conor McGregor Delete Post After Reminding Him of His Worst Nightmare

Conor McGregor is easily one of the most recognizable fighters the UFC has produced in the past two decades. However, since gaining fame with his professional martial arts career, McGregor has continued stirring controversy on and off the Octagon with his comments.

The UFC star made one such controversial comment recently on social media regarding Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham. However, Cunningham shared a fiery response that reminded McGregor of his worst nightmare and forced him to eat his words. Here’s how the Game of Thrones star made Conor McGregor delete his comment.

Game of Thrones star Liam Cunningham made Conor McGregor delete a controversial post

Irish actor Liam Cunningham is best known for his performance as Ser Davos Seaworth in the globally popular fantasy-drama series Game of Thrones. Aside from his acting roles, Cunningham is also known for his political views and activism.

In June 2025, Cunningham took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to discuss the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The actor voiced his displeasure with Israel’s seizure of the Freedom Flotilla, a Gaza activist boat meant to aid those affected in the region.

In response to Cunningham’s post, Irish professional mixed martial artist Conor McGregor posted a controversial comment. In the since-deleted post, McGregor joked that Cunningham should also have been on the boat. In response, Cunningham made the comment below, clapping back at the former UFC Champion

In the past, McGregor has openly voiced his support for Israel (via MSN), which explains why he attacked Cunningham on social media. However, following the actor’s clap back at him, McGregor promptly deleted his comment.

Despite McGregor’s aggressive comments aimed at him, Cunningham kept his cool and provided an appropriate response to the martial artist. In his reply, the 3 Body Problem actor was most likely referencing McGregor’s fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

When the duo faced off for a title match at UFC 229, Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor by forcing the latter into tapping out via a neck crank submission (via BBC).

Following the Khabib fight, McGregor lost two out of his last three bouts, and he hasn’t stepped back into the octagon since his fight against Dustin Poirier in 2021. As a result, Cunningham seemed to be reminding McGregor of his worst nightmare in the Octagon, which likely caused the Road House villain to delete his comment.

Furthermore, this wasn’t the first time McGregor made a hasty comment that came back to bite him. The UFC star sent a journalist a derogatory post in December last year before swiftly deleting it (via SportsBible). As a result, McGregor continues to make headlines for making controversial comments and deleting them.

Game of Thrones is currently streaming on Max (USA).
