‘Fire Force’ Season 3 Is Not Able to Deliver the Same Way for Its Biggest Strength

With Season 3 being the final instalment in the Fire Force franchise’s storyline, the stars were aligned for studio David Production to show off their worth. But did they deliver? While some might disagree, one cannot overlook the significant drop in overall animation quality in this latest season compared to what we’ve seen previously.

Fire Force‘s greatest strength lies in its animation, to be more precise, the action animation. Seasons 1 and 2 knew that and treated us with masterclass fight sequences that remain unforgettable for viewers even to this day. In fact, everything related to those fights, like SFXs, choreography, and impact frames, was done to perfection. But we can’t really see any of that in Season 3 yet!

Fire Force Season 3 fights are excessively dull to follow along with

Although the past two seasons of Fire Force were also done by the same studio, for some reason, they’re not going as hard as they’re supposed to in Season 3. Overworked employees may not be a reason for it, since there aren’t many big series the studio is working on simultaneously now, but then what led to this disaster?

The answer to that remains unknown, but it’s undeniably true that fans deserve much more from the final season of this pioneering franchise. It’s not like the animation is all bad or unbearable to watch; it’s still pretty decent compared to your average isekai animation. But that’s until you start comparing.

The only two big fights we’ve gotten to see in Season 3 so far are the Arthur vs. the Dragon fight and Shinra vs. Captain Burns’ final showdown. Now, if you critically look at them, Arthur’s fight was completely a one-sided snooze fest and even had no dynamic movements to get excited about. So the Shinra fight must have been better, you might think, right?

Quite literally the opposite. Even the previous fight between them (Shinra and Captain Burns) in Seasons 1 and 2 was way more fluid, with smoother transitions and sick camera angles. But here, we didn’t get any of that. There was nothing in particular that stood out; even Joker in the background did nothing but watch.

Studio David Production has to level up its game before the final arc starts

With episode 10 finally out now, we’re getting close to the end of Cour/Part 1 of Fire Force‘s final season. The last two episodes will go further down the storyline, explaining the stakes that have grown significantly large in this ongoing arc. The Great Cataclysm is almost upon us, and as it seems, there’s no stopping it now.

However, this might act like a ringing bell for Studio David Production to finally wake up from their slumber. They’re not some small studio that does such subpar adaptations; they’re much more capable than that. Which is why fans may still continue hoping that the final half of Season 3, which will release next year, will compensate for all its losses so far.

After all, the final arc of Fire Force may even go down in anime history as one of the best arcs ever. The plot twists and revelations, one after another, will be something epic to behold. And most importantly, the upcoming fights that will take place in this final arc will be all worth the hype.

Fire Force Season 3 is currently airing on Crunchyroll.
