Disney’s 2010 Streaming Favorite May Return If the Moana Live Action Bails It Out

After the Snow White live-action remake, Disney fans are a little weary of any iconic animated films coming to life. The next on the list is Moana, starring Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Laga’aia. If, unlike Rachel Zegler’s controversial film, Moana turns out to be a good addition to the ever-growing list of live-action remakes, perhaps there is hope for a fan-favorite film after all.

Yep, we are talking about none other than 2010’s Tangled, a film that still remains on top of Disney lovers’ lists for best animated flicks of all time. Whether it was Flynn- sorry, Eugene’s undeniable charm or Rapunzel’s endearing fierceness, Tangled will forever remain iconic. Now, a report suggests that its future might be in Moana‘s hands.

Daniel RPK, aka Daniel Richtman, has mostly been on the mark when it comes to giving an insight into the complicated world of Tinseltown. So, when he speaks, we listen carefully.

In one of his latest updates (via SuperHeroHype), Richtman reported that a Tangled live-action remake depends largely on how Moana will do next year. If the film starring Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Laga’aia turns out to be a success, Richtman believes that Disney will go back to developing a live-action Tangled, one we all have heard countless rumors and reports on.

In April of this year, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Disney had halted all work on Tangled‘s remake, given the failure of Rachel Zegler‘s Snow White. On a budget of around $270 million, the film was only able to bring in $205 million (via The Numbers). Moreover, fans were not happy with the film either, deeming it a horrible try at being woke.

Luckily, Lilo & Stitch live-action proved to be a breath of fresh air, receiving glowing reviews from both fans and critics, and making a fortune at the box office, at less than half of Snow White‘s budget.

Clearly, there is still scope for Disney to absolutely kill it with a Tangled remake, but it all comes down to how Moana performs, apparently. While live-action remakes are getting pretty old, pretty fast, we wouldn’t mind getting a real-life Flynn Rider, IYKWIM.

Do fans even want a live-action Tangled?

Well, the Internet seems to be divided into two factions when it comes to the live-action remake of the iconic fairytale. However, the majority seems to be leaning towards a negative.

Sure, a live-action Flynn and Rapunzel would be amazing, that is, if done right. We would even love to see Mother Gothel take a human form, especially if we get Katherine Hahn in the role. But then, there are elements like Maximus, Pascal, and the long, flowing hair of the lost princess that Disney will have to pay extra attention to, to do justice to the animated film.

While some are rooting in favor of the live-action remake, others are begging Disney not to ruin their favorite childhood memories. Take a look at how people are reacting to the news:

Whether Moana succeeds or not will only be answered next year. Until then, we sincerely hope Disney takes its sweet time to work on the Tangled remake if they want to keep their credibility. After all, coming after the world’s favorite princess without a solid plan just might not work in their favor.

We all remember what happened with Snow White…

Tangled is available to stream on Disney+ and Moana live-action is set to release on July 10, 2026.
