Giants fan bizarrely throws baseball at umpire during live play in Braves game

Baseball has long embraced its share of quirky fan traditions, from the wave to throwing back opposing home run balls. But Friday night at Oracle Park, one fan took things way too far — and created one of the strangest scenes of the MLB season. During the fourth inning of the San Francisco Giants’ 5-4 […]

Fabio Wardley reveals the fight he would never agree to and claims he would even ‘take a knee in the first round’

FABIO WARDLEY has floored the baffling suggestion that he could fight his mentor and pal Dillian Whyte.

After following all of Wardley’s career, we were stunned to hear the idea even mooted from some clumsy pundits.

Two boxers in a boxing ring.

Fabio Wardley has ruled out fighting his manager and mentor Dillian Whyte[/caption]

But Wardley told SunSport with a laugh: “From the second it would be announced, everybody who knows the sport and who knows us, would know it would be fake and not something I would ever do, because of the amount of love, respect and admiration I have for Dills.

“People go on about my story, white-collar, coming from nowhere, sparring Usyk.

“But none of that is possible without Dillian at the beginning, giving me all of these opportunities.

“So I would never spit in his face and fight him.

“Even if all the sanctioning bodies called for the fight and somebody was silly enough to put all the money up, I would take a knee in the first round and give him the win.”

Ipswich’s 30-year-old former recruitment worker and white-collar boxer headlines Portman Road on Saturday night against tough Australian Justis Huni.

Whyte was due to feature on the Ipswich undercard but pulled out to secure a summer showdown with Lawrence Okolie.

He has not boxed in England since November 2022 and was supposed to have a rematch with Anthony Joshua in August 2023.

But that O2 sell-out was scrapped when Whyte failed a doping test.

Whyte has boxed in Gibraltar and Ireland since that big-money clash was binned, landing underwhelming wins.

For Wardley, on June 16 his partner is scheduled to give birth to his first child, a bouncing baby girl.

For anyone else, the nail-biting fortnight would be a crippling rollercoaster of emotions impossible to combine.

But the Suffolk Puncher – who went on an Oleksandr Usyk sparring trip to Ukraine in 2018 when he barely knew how to throw a jab – is loving the chaos.

The class act told SunSport: “June 2025 is going to be a wild month I talk a lot about, for the rest of my life.

“I will be an old man in a rocking chair, telling people about it and wondering how we pulled it off.

“Everything has come together at the same time, it might seem a bit hectic but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I thrive on it, I love the chaos.”

Nine months ago, the 18-0-1 ace got the wonderful news he would be a dad for the first time.

Boxing match card: Fabio Wardley vs Justis Huni. Stats included.

And a few weeks later he got the offer of a lifetime, to headline at his boyhood football club, a chance that some Olympic and world champions never get.

It seems like a psychological and logistical nightmare that would be destined for the divorce courts but Team Wardley is way too tight.

“If my little girl is anything like me, then she’ll be chilled out and late, which will give me a little bit more time to decompress from the fight,” he grinned.

“The flight date has been moved around a few times but my missus has been unbelievable.

“I have just promised to her that, as soon as Saturday night is over, I am all theirs.

“This week, though, is just my week. I need to be totally focused on me and then it’s all on them.”

Wardley – who cracked 2020 Olympic bronze winner Frazer Clarke’s skull in their one-round rematch in October – somehow combines being a brutal boxer with being a lovely bloke and he insists that won’t change with another win or a baby.

“I don’t know how parenthood will affect me,” he said. “I do plan to be the fun-dad though.

“I want mum to do the telling off. I think I will always be driven to push myself in everything, though.

“That’s something just innate in me. And I am sure I will need to feed and stoke that fire regularly.”

Huge fashion retailer with over 250 UK stores ‘drawing up radical rescue plan’ with shops and jobs at risk

A HUGE fashion retailer with over 250 UK stores is reportedly drawing up a radical rescue plan which could see shops and jobs axed.

The high street giant – which is being forced to restructure due to tough trading standards – employs around 5,500 people and was founded in London in 1948.

The chain’s owners have brought in advisers from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to come up with money-saving solutions, reports Sky News.

The proposals are expected to be finalised in a matter of weeks, though sources have reportedly claimed no decisions have been green lit on the retailer’s future.

Accounts for River Island Clothing Co for the year ending December 30 2023 showed the firm made a £33.2 million pre-tax loss.

Then the turnover during the following 12 months fell by more than 19% to £578.1 million.

The firm’s latest accounts at Companies House, warned of growing financial and operational risks.

“The market for retailing of fashion clothing is fast changing with customer preferences for more diverse, convenient and speedier shopping journeys and with increasing competition especially in the digital space,” it said.

“The key business risks for the group are the pressures of a highly competitive and changing retail environment combined with increased economic uncertainty.

“A number of geopolitical events have resulted in continuing supply chain disruption as well as energy, labour and food price increases, driving inflation and interest rates higher and resulting in weaker disposable income and lower consumer confidence.”

In January, River Island hired consulting firm, AlixPartners, to undertake work on cost reductions and profit improvement.

It’s understood PwC has now taken over.

In recent months, a number of River Island stores have been closing, including in Corby and Chesterfield.

Originally named Lewis Separates and then Chelsea Girl, the chain was founded by Bernard Lewis in 1948 and became influential during the 1960s fashion scene, including the iconic mini-dress trend.

It was re-branded as River Island in 1988 and throughout the next two decades expanded to become a leading high street force in the UK.

It now has a presence in over 125 worldwide markets, in stores and online.

Why are retailers closing shops?

EMPTY shops have become an eyesore on many British high streets and are often symbolic of a town centre’s decline.

The Sun’s business editor Ashley Armstrong explains why so many retailers are shutting their doors.

In many cases, retailers are shutting stores because they are no longer the money-makers they once were because of the rise of online shopping.

Falling store sales and rising staff costs have made it even more expensive for shops to stay open.

The British Retail Consortium has predicted that the Treasury’s hike to employer NICs from April 2025, will cost the retail sector £2.3billion.

At the same time, the minimum wage will rise to £12.21 an hour from April, and the minimum wage for people aged 18-20 will rise to £10 an hour, an increase of £1.40.

In some cases, retailers are shutting a store and reopening a new shop at the other end of a high street to reflect how a town has changed.

The problem is that when a big shop closes, footfall falls across the local high street, which puts more shops at risk of closing.

Retail parks are increasingly popular with shoppers, who want to be able to get easy, free parking at a time when local councils have hiked parking charges in towns.

Many retailers including Next and Marks & Spencer have been shutting stores on the high street and taking bigger stores in better-performing retail parks instead.

In some cases, stores have been shut when a retailer goes bust, as in the case of Carpetright, Debenhams, Dorothy Perkins, Paperchase, Ted Baker, The Body Shop, Topshop and Wilko to name a few.

What’s increasingly common is when a chain goes bust a rival retailer or private equity firm snaps up the intellectual property rights so they can own the brand and sell it online.

They may go on to open a handful of stores if there is customer demand, but there are rarely ever as many stores or in the same places.

The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) has warned that around 17,350 retail sites are expected to shut down this year.

Arsenal ‘open talks with RB Leipzig over Benjamin Sesko transfer’ as German side make bizarre move to force deal through

ARSENAL have reportedly opened transfer talks with RB Leipzig over Benjamin Sesko.

The 22-year-old Slovenian forward has been on the Gunners’ wishlist since last summer.

Sesko scored 21 goals and notched six assists in all competitions last season.

And new sporting director Andrea Berta is eager to get a deal over the line ahead of a “big” summer.

Arsenal opened official talks with Leipzig on Friday, according to Sky Sports.

The two clubs are in contact but no formal bid has yet been submitted.

Sesko is currently nursing a knock and didn’t play for Slovenia against Luxembourg last night.

The injury to his knee is not thought to be serious.

The Mirror claims Leipzig contacted the Slovenian FA prior to the international break.

The club requested Sesko sit out both Slovenia’s matches in a bid to avoid injury.

He has travelled with the squad ahead of a game with Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday.

But Sesko has not trained ahead of the game in Celje.

Arsenal remain interested in Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres as Mikel Arteta looks to overhaul his attack.

But as SunSport exclusively revealed on Friday, Manchester United are in pole position to sign the Swede sensation.

Gyokeres, who scored 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting last season, has an £85m release clause.

But it is understood that the Portuguese side would accept a fee closer to £60m this summer.

Benjamin Sesko's 2024-25 Bundesliga statistics for RB Leipzig.

Leipzig appear braced for numerous bids on Sesko, who could command a similar fee.

The forward has proved prolific since joining the German side from sister club RB Salzburg in 2023.

Sesko has bagged 39 goals in 87 games for Leipzig.

He penned a lucrative contract extension last summer, with the deal running until 2029.

And don’t worry if your purse is feeling tighter than ever before, as thanks to this handy hack from experts at Cleanipedia, you may already have the two ingredients in your kitchen cupboard.

Posting on social media, the pros at Cleanipedia, which is powered by Unilever, explained how two household essentials can be used to get rid of cobwebs and deter bugs from your home.

Alongside a short clip shared on Instagram, the experts wrote: “Keep spiders and bugs away from your windows with this easy trick!”

Thanks to this hack, all you’ll need is washing-up liquid and white vinegar.

First things first, you’ll need to nab a Dismatic and clean surfaces “using dish soap and white vinegar mix.”

The experts claimed: “This mix is also great if you want sparkling windows.”

Following this, the pros advised: “Spray white vinegar (or essential oils) all over to repel the bugs.”

According to the experts, white vinegar acts as a natural repellent thanks to its strong scent.

They acknowledged that “pests can’t stand it”, as they added: “Use it to keep them out of your home and push them back toward the garden bushes where they belong!”

While the experts demonstrated this hack on windows, you can use this trick anywhere in your home where cobwebs and pests prove a nuisance.

Not only will it make your pad shine, but it’s super cost-effective, making it great for those on a budget.

If you’ve run out of washing-up liquid and white vinegar, you’ll be pleased to know that you can nab washing-up liquid for as little as 49p from Savers, while white vinegar will cost you just 35p from Sainsbury’s.

Keep pests out all summer

IF you want to ensure that your home is pest free this summer, here's what you need to know.

Hornets and wasps – hate the smell of peppermint oil so spraying this liberally around your patio or balcony can help to keep them at bay.

Moths – acidic household white vinegar is effective for deterring moths. Soak some kitchen roll in vinegar and leave it in your wardrobe as a deterrent.

Flying ants – herbs and spices, such as cinnamon, mint, chilli pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cloves, or garlic act as deterrents.

Mosquitoes – plants, herbs and essential oil fragrances can help deter mozzies inside and out. Try eucalyptus, lavender and lemongrass.

Cleaning enthusiasts beam

The Instagram clip, which was posted under the username @cleanipedia, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 342,000 views.

Not only this, but it’s also amassed 1,347 likes and 31 comments.

ALGAE: If your fence is covered in stubborn algae, Mrs Hinch fans swore by white vinegar to get it looking brand new.

MOSS: If moss is causing you problems, soda crystals will do just the trick.

PATIO: IF your patio slabs have seen better days, bleach could be just the thing for you.

At the same time, a third simply commented: “Amazing.”

Meanwhile, someone else asked: “What essential oils can I use? Peppermint oil ok?

To this, the pros at Cleanipedia wrote back and confirmed: “Yes! You can use peppermint oil because it has a strong smell which insects don’t like so they’ll steer away from it and go somewhere else.”

In a post on Instagram on Friday evening, Rod announced that he will now be cancelling four US tour dates and rescheduling two others, all of which were meant to take place over the next eight days.

He wrote: “So sorry my friends. I’m devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I’ll be back on stage and will see you soon.”

Rod signed off with a heartbroken emoji.

The next slide on the text-based post confirmed the four cancelled dates are three performances at the Colosseum Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada, and one at Lake Tahoe Amphitheater at Caeser’s Republic in Stateline, Nevada.

He is rescheduling two dates at casinos in California.

Sir Rod has cancelled a number of dates at his Colosseum residency over the last week, with his scheduled June 2nd and June 5th performances.

The multiple cancellations come after he was put on vocal rest between performances in May.

Currently he is still set to perform at Glastonbury Festival, which takes place across June 27th to June 29th.

He will be joined on the Pyramid Stage line-up by headliners Olivia Rodrigo, The 1975 and Neil Young.

Nile Rogers, Noah Kahan and The Libertines will play alongside him on Sunday.

The hour-long set was extended by 15 minutes at his request, with him teasing a reunion with long-time collaborator and Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood as he takes to the stage.

His string of performances come after Sir Rod noted he was planning to stop large-scale world tours at the end of this year.

However, he vowed to keep performing, just at more intimate venues.

Elon Musk hints at new ‘America Party’ as Trump fumes billionaire has ‘lost his mind’ after bitter bromance break-up

ELON Musk has hinted at launching a new political force just days after a spectacular public falling-out with President Donald Trump.

In a string of posts on X, the tech mogul asked his 220 million followers whether it was “time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle.”

The pair had been showing off their political bromance until their public fall-out[/caption]

AFP
The feud erupted over Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill,’ which proposed stripping billions in government subsidies from Tesla[/caption]

By Friday, after 80 per cent of the 5,6million responders backed the idea, Musk declared: “This is fate.”

He later endorsed a supporter’s suggestion to name it the America Party.

It echoes the name of Musk’s America PAC – the vehicle he used to pour $239million into backing Trump and GOP candidates in 2024.

But the former allies are now locked in an escalating war of words, with Trump telling ABC News, “You mean the man who has lost his mind?” when asked about a possible call with Musk.

“Not particularly,” he added when pressed on whether he planned to speak to the billionaire.

The rift appears rooted in Trump’s prized One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a sweeping domestic spending package Musk has called a “disgusting abomination.”

The president has hit back, reportedly threatening to strip Musk’s companies of federal subsidies.

Musk also called for Trump’s impeachment earlier this week, adding fuel to the feud by promoting baseless claims linking the president to the Jeffrey Epstein case — claims which GOP lawmakers quickly rejected.

Political fallout

Musk may not be serious about launching a new party — he also responded “Hmm” to a suggestion he reform the GOP from within — but his comments have added fresh uncertainty to an already divided political landscape.

Launching a viable third party would require navigating complex state-by-state ballot access laws.

Illustration of a timeline showing events in a Musk and Trump feud.

And unlike his super PAC, direct party donations are capped under federal election rules.

Still, the fallout from the split is spreading.

House Speaker Mike Johnson — a key Trump ally — waved off Musk’s criticism and threw his support behind the bill that triggered the clash.

“The American people are concerned about things that really matter,” Johnson said Thursday.

“That is making their taxes low, making their economy work, making the border secure, making energy dominance a big thing again.”

Vice President JD Vance dismissed talk of Trump being impulsive, calling such claims “ridiculous,” while other allies rushed to defend the president from Musk’s Epstein allegations.

Tesla out, Mars off-limits

The bromance breakup has even reached the White House garage.

Trump, who bought a red Tesla Model S in March in a show of support for Musk, now plans to sell or give it away, administration officials said.

Republican lawmakers and influencers appear divided.

Some, like Rep. Thomas Massie, acknowledged Musk’s frustrations but urged caution.

Others, including members of Trump’s youth advisory board, declared their loyalty firmly with the president.

Meanwhile, Musk’s allies hinted at deeper tensions, with MAGA influencers joking that Trump’s “not invited to Mars anymore.”

Hedge fund manager Bill Ackman called for reconciliation, but hopes of a peace deal faded quickly as Trump doubled down Friday morning.

Musk, for his part, says he’ll be around for “40+ years.”

Whether that includes a third-party bid or a return to GOP primaries remains unclear.

How did Musk and Trump's relationship crumble?

ELON Musk and Donald Trump spent Thursday launching insults on social media as their relationship quickly went sour.

The Tesla owner called for Trump’s impeachment as the president hit back and warned the government could end all federal contracts with Musk’s companies. Here’s how it went down:

  • On Tuesday, Musk tweeted that Trump’s signature “big beautiful” spending bill was a “disgusting abomination” that would add billions to the federal deficit
  • On Thursday in the Oval Office, Trump addressed Musk’s criticism of the bill and accused Musk of trying to kill it because the bill ends federal subsidies for electric vehicles
  • Musk responded by live-posting on X as Trump spoke, initially shrugging off the president’s assessment with an unbothered “Whatever,” before tearing into the bill’s other spending provisions
  • Trump escalated the feud after the Oval Office meeting with multiple posts on Truth Social, saying he told Musk to leave the White House instead of continuing to work with Doge and threatening to dump Musk’s federal contracts, which are worth billions
  • Musk fired back on X by saying he was “decommissioning” the Dragon spacecraft made by SpaceX that brought the stranded Nasa astronauts back from the International Space Station in March
  • Musk also escalated the war of words by reposting and replying “Yes” to a tweet claiming that Trump should be impeached and replaced by Vice President JD Vance
  • Musk further fanned the flames by claiming that Trump is named in the infamous “Epstein files” and making unfounded accusations that its the reason they haven’t been released to the public.
