Nestle confirms it’s axed breakfast staple from all UK supermarket shelves as shoppers sob ‘life isn’t the same’

NESTLE has confirmed it axed a breakfast staple from all UK supermarkets, leaving shoppers heartbroken.

The chocolate to coffee maker has confirmed Clusters are no longer available on shelves.

Nestlé Clusters Almonds 325g
The Nestlé Clusters Almonds 325g product is a delicious and crunchy breakfast cereal made with whole grain flakes and toasted almonds.
Each box contains 325 grams of the cereal, which is perfect for enjoying with milk or yogurt for a nutritious start to the day. The almonds add a nutty flavor and extra crunch to the cereal, making it a satisfying and tasty option for breakfast or snacking.

Nestlé Clusters were a popular treat for customers to enjoy

The morning meal – made with whole grain flakes and toasted almonds – was a staple in British supermarkets for years but was axed over a decade.

However many shoppers are unaware the snack is no longer available in stores and wondered if it would make a return.

One curious customers took to X, to plead with Nestle to bring the product back.

They said: “I woke up this morning and the only thing I want is a bowl of Clusters. Please bring them back.

“Life just hasn’t been the same since they went away.”

Nestle responded and confirmed the cereal was no more, crushing dreams the product might make a return soon.

The company said: “We’re sorry to have to give you disappointing news, but unfortunately, Clusters has been discontinued from our range.”

It will come as a blow to customers who in the past described it as a “glorious cereal”.

While another said: “Nestle clusters was the only cereal I could eat. I used to buy upto a dozen boxes. There’s nothing out there I can eat.”

And a third upset shopper said: “Please bring nestle clusters back! I’ll buy them in bulk I promise.”

It is not the first time Nestle has axed a product that customers love.

Last December it told customers it would no longer sell Carnation Vegan Condensed Milk Alternative.

The substitute for its original dairy version was made with oats and rice and was used for baking sweet treats that were plant-based.

It was launched by the chocolate-to-coffee maker back in 2020 and was sold in supermarkets such as Asda and retailed for around £2.50.

Last October, shoppers were left distraught after learning the company had stopped making Smarties Buttons.

The treat comprised a tasty combination of milk chocolate buttons with crunchy bits, but maker Nestle said it now wants to focus on its core Smarties products.

The product was unveiled in 2020 as a “reimagined” treat for choc-lovers with “special memories” of Smarties.

Nestle also said last summer it was no longer making Cheerios Vanilla O’s, leading to heartbreak.

MORE DISCONTINUED CEREAL

It is not uncommon for popular cereals to disappear from shelves.

Kellogg’s said last month it would no longer be making chocolate Cornflakes after a product recall.

Two years ago shoppers were also horrified to learn the cereal giant had axed Frosties from its multi pack boxes as it contained too much sugar.

And it’s not only Kellogg’s which has pulled the trigger on a number of popular morning foods.

Weetabix confirmed earlier this month that Alpen cereal bars have now permanently disappeared from supermarket shelves.

Tesco left shoppers heartbroken when it confirmed it was no longer making its own-brand apricot wheats.

Why are products axed or recipes changed?

ANALYSIS by chief consumer reporter James Flanders.

Food and drinks makers have been known to tweak their recipes or axe items altogether.

They often say that this is down to the changing tastes of customers.

There are several reasons why this could be done.

For example, government regulation, like the “sugar tax,” forces firms to change their recipes.

Some manufacturers might choose to tweak ingredients to cut costs.

They may opt for a cheaper alternative, especially when costs are rising to keep prices stable.

For example, Tango Cherry disappeared from shelves in 2018.

It has recently returned after six years away but as a sugar-free version.

Fanta removed sweetener from its sugar-free alternative earlier this year.

Suntory tweaked the flavour of its flagship Lucozade Original and Orange energy drinks.

While the amount of sugar in every bottle remains unchanged, the supplier swapped out the sweetener aspartame for sucralose.

Rory McIlroy & Shane Lowry at the heart of US Open surprise as organisers reveal twist ahead of major

RORY McIlroy and Shane Lowry have been paired TOGETHER for this week’s US Open at Oakmont in Pennsylvania.

It’s a surprise move by organisers given how big names are generally kept apart for the opening two rounds.

But in this case, all Irish eyes will be on one particular playing group across Thursday and Friday’s action.

Their group hasn’t exactly been rounded out by a nobody either as Justin Rose completes the high-profile trio with the Masters runner-up joining them from the 10th hole onwards.

Lowry and McIlroy will tee off in the year’s third major at 12.40pm Irish time.

Their second round will commence at 6.25pm Irish time.

The Offaly native comes into the notoriously tricky major championship in fine form on the back of finishing tied-13th at last week’s Canadian Open.

For that result, he earned a paycheque of $180,810. Tournament winner Ryan Fox scooped $1.76 million after besting Sam Burns in a play-off.

Lowry had catapulted himself into contention on Thursday with a scintillating opening-round score of six-under-par.

He backed that up on Friday with a two-under round of 68.

But with pal McIlroy having packed his bags at the halfway stage, the leaders struck clear on Saturday, while Lowry could only shoot another 68.

He got off to a cracking start in Toronto on Sunday. The Clara man shot an eagle on the first before backing it up with three birdies on the spin.

But a bogey on the ninth after four consecutive pars halted his momentum.

And while he steadied the ship by parring the next five, he was running out of time and holes to remain in contention.

A birdie on the 15th kept him in the hunt but bogeys on the 16th and 17th killed his hopes off.

The Ireland Olympian moves on to Oakmont next, where he finished runner-up to Dustin Johnson in the 2016 US Open.

After wrapping up his Sunday round the 38-year-old posted an upbeat summation on Instagram.

It read: “Great tournament, great people, disappointing finish. Thank you Canada, Canadian Open and sponsors RBC. On to the US Open.”

This will be a record-extending 10th time that the US Open will be held at Oakmont.

The rough on Oakmont stands at 5 INCHES tall, with the course trimmed to ensure that is uniform throughout all 18 holes.

World number one Scottie Scheffler will go into it as a short-priced favourite. Last week he backed up his PGA Championship success with a dominant victory at the Memorial.

Dramatic moment drug dealer leads cops on high-speed chase through posh estate – before officers smash his windows in

THIS is the dramatic moment a drug dealer raced ahead of cops in a high-speed chase before being cornered by officers.

Connor Darwent, 27, led police on a terrifying five-mile pursuit after speeding away from officers and making his way across a historic country estate.

The arrest is part of a county-wide crackdown on drugs in Lincolnshire[/caption]

The drug dealer had been stopped while driving on the A46 towards Lincoln in his powerful BMW 1 Series by cops as he was wanted on suspicion of supplying class A drugs.

Police body camera footage shows the dramatic moment Darwent sped away from the police block, prompting other cops to chase after him.

Despite having his tyres shredded by a police stinger, Darwent reached blistering speeds racing his BMW down the main road, in hot pursuit of officers.

After breaking off from the tarmac, the drug dealer took the chase onto the historic grounds of the 17th century manor Doddington Hall.

He can be seen careering down a dirt track, with cops appearing to ask if they could engage in “tactical content” before Darwent returned to the main road.

Reaching the end of the rugged path, Darwent swings a hard right turn – taking him and officers into a large field of crops.

Here, however, the advantage turned to the police, as the chasing officers managed to ram and immobilise the drug dealer’s car, bringing them to a screeching halt.

Then, the two officers can be seen quickly jumping out of their vehicles to arrest Darwent and the other male in his vehicle.

They can be seen smashing in the windows of the drug dealer’s car, forcing them to show their hands as backup arrives.

The two officers then drag Darwent and the other man out onto the ground to be arrested.

Following the incredible police chase on May 24, 2022, Darwent admitted conspiracy to supply class A drugs and dangerous driving.

He was jailed for two-and-a-half years on Thursday, June 5.

Darwent was a courier who made regular journeys between Coventry and Skegness to reload the lucrative “Abs line”.

Police say the drug line was worth up to £252,000 to the gang, who supplied around 5.8kg of cocaine to dealers and users.

Three other members of the group were also sentenced after admitting conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

Kirsty Reilly, 32, drove drugs from Coventry to Skegness and was jailed for three years.

Sarah Makey, 47, received a 21-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, and was ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work.

Her husband Nathan, 48, dealt drugs and sent out marketing messages on his phone on behalf of the holder of the Abs line – Alistair Renwick.

Renwick was jailed for nine years in April while Makey will be sentenced in August.

Liam Tomkins, 25, was jailed for three-and-a-half years in his absence after failing to appear at court.

The arrests are part of a satisfying conclusion to a major operation launched by Lincolnshire Police.

In an attempt to crackdown on organised crime, the police unit launched an operation to tackle eight separate drug lines that had brought crack cocaine and heroine into the county’s coastal towns.

More than 70 people have been arrested since the operation was launched in September 2022 – with a cumulative prison sentence of more than 120 years.

Detective Inspector Will Tharby, of the Serious and Organised Crime Unit, said: “Drug dealing reaches far beyond those directly involved in the exchange of money for drugs.

“Its ripple effects fuel antisocial behaviour, robbery, burglary, and violence-not just among those entrenched in the drug trade, but across entire communities.

“Families, neighbours, and local businesses all feel the weight of drug-related crime, facing its disruptive and often devastating consequences.

“We’ve dismantled a thoroughly harmful operation, taken drugs off the streets, and sent a clear message – criminal networks will not thrive in Lincolnshire’s communities.”

Why police were called to first Dunnes Stores opening

BETWEEN the weekly food shops and bargain fashion - Dunnes Stores is a staple retailer in Irish households.

But this wasn’t always the case, and when the initial branch of the shop opened its doors in 1944 it caused quite the stir

On March 31 of the year, Ben Dunne opened the first ever Dunnes Stores on St Patrick’s Street in Co Cork

Locals quickly learned of the grand opening and flooded into the store in what the retailer’s archives recall as a “shopping frenzy.”

The bargain clothing on sale inside the new store at “pre-war prices” was one of the factors cited for the buzz.

During the chaos a window was forced in and Gardai were called to the scene.

Cops worked to deal with the eager crowds and keep shoppers calm and safe before they made it into the store for their first Dunnes experience.

Fast forward some 80 years, the business now employs over 18,000 people and although an opening of a Dunnes branch hasn’t caused quite as much stir since the very first one, it has cemented its place as one of the nation’s leading retailers

Dunnes Stores now has 138 stores across Europe:

  • 118 in the Republic of Ireland,
  • 15 in Northern Ireland
  • Five stores in Spain

‘Hundreds of homes’ evacuated after discovery of ‘suspicious device’ in Tyrone town as road BLOCKED & cops on scene

HUNDREDS of homes in Co Tyrone have been evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious device in Strabane.

The area affected is at the junction of Mount Carmel Heights with Newtownkennedy Street near Evish Square in Tyrone.

Police are on the scene after a suspicious device was found there around 9am today.

They are overseeing a major public safety operation on the now inaccessible street.

Cops confirmed that a number of houses are being evacuated as part of the proceedings.

And they added that Melvin Sports Complex is available as a rest centre.

Police said that they will keep the public updated but urged locals to cooperate with law enforcement.

Inspector Robb said: “We understand the disruption and inconvenience this is causing, and we are working our way through this situation as quickly as possible.

“However, public safety is of paramount importance and we appreciate the co-operation and patience from the public as we deal with this incident.

“We will keep you updated.”

SDLP West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan has said he is liaising with members of the public while the alert is ongoing.

He said: “Nobody wants to see scenes like this unfolding in our community, we have had far too many instances of this in the past and I hope to see it brought to an end as soon as possible.”

He added that families are being prevented from leaving or returning to their home due to the incident, which he said has caused “huge disruption”.

‘LET PEOPLE LIVE IN PEACE’

McCrossan continued: “It’s not only stopping people going about their lives, but there are many elderly and vulnerable people in this area who rely on visits from family or carers and this alert will cause them real worry.

“I condemn this alert in the strongest possible terms and would urge those behind it to get off the backs of the local community and let people live their lives in peace.”

He also asked the local population to cooperate with police as the investigation is ongoing.

In a statement, police said they made the discovery this morning.

They explained: “Police are dealing with a security alert in the area of Evish Square of Strabane following the discovery of a suspicious device there shortly after 9am this morning, Tuesday 10 June.

“A public safety operation is underway and the main area impacted at this time is at the junction of Mount Carmel Heights with Newtownkennedy Street, which is inaccessible.

“A number of homes are being evacuated. Melvin Sports Complex is available as a rest centre.

“We will keep you updated.”
