A rare single Pokémon card – a Shining Charizard 107/105 first edition from the Neo Destiny set – sold for £1,250.

The first edition Neo Revelation set, including Shining Magikarp and Shining Gyarados, went for £3,400.

One collection of rare first edition Pokémon Base Set cards fetched £2,000.

The complete first edition Team Rocket set sold for £1,700, while the Fossil set made £1,200.

Hammer prices for all 17 lots totalled £17,220.

The collection was sold by Richard Winterton Auctioneers, Lichfield, West Midlands, after the owner from West Yorkshire took them in for a routine valuation, as reported by What’s The Jam.

Auctioneer Richard Winterton said: “A couple of years ago we sold a wonderful Pokémon collection for £250,000.

“We’re proud to have a great reputation for selling Pokémon and because of that we continue to receive countless consignments and requests for valuations from all over the UK.

“This latest collection had us very excited and, following a huge amount of pre-sale interest, went on to exceed expectations at auction.

“One of the highlights was a single Pokémon card – the Shining Charizard 1st edition from Neo Destiny – selling at a fantastic £1,250.

“It never fails to impress me how Pokémon has exploded into a global sensation – and it still continues to grow bigger and bigger.”
