Brandon Routh donned the iconic red cape in 2006 when he took over the role of Superman in Superman Returns. With his quiet intensity and humble charm, his version of the Man of Steel quickly became one of the most memorable in character history. While his name often gets forgotten amidst actors like Henry Cavill and Christopher Reeve, we cannot forget his contribution to the superhero genre.
Superman Returns is still known as one of Brandon Routh’s best works, if not the best. However, it looks like things might change for the actor, especially with the upcoming release of his throwback horror film, Ick.

Directed by Joseph Kahn, Ick is a science fiction horror comedy that got its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival back on September 07, 2024. It received mostly positive reviews from critics and a 71% score on Rotten Tomatoes out of 21 reviews.
Ick features Brandon Routh as a former high-school football star-turned-science teacher. While he figures out his past with an old lover, a parasitic alien threat is causing havoc in the town. The only rule? Do not touch the Ick.

As you could see in the trailer, JoBlo has described Routh’s portrayal of Hank as “his best role, probably since he played the Man of Steel.” Considering the fact that the actor has been in a plethora of projects since 2006, this is a huge compliment coming his way.
Needless to say, Kahn sure knows how to create hype around his projects. Add Routh to the mix and you have yourself an unforgettable cinematic journey. As Bloody Disgusting puts it, Ick is “pure sugar/caffeine rush.” However, when it comes down from the sugar high, it can get “extremely uneven and a little frustrating.”
