Helldivers 2 has tons of details. In fact, players in the past have pointed out that Arrowhead does a great job at storytelling through small details scattered all over the map. It’s quite difficult to narrate a story without cutscenes, but these small details are perfect.
A movie based on the Helldivers franchise is in development
One of the main reasons behind Helldivers 2‘s success is its intriguing lore, so Sony, obviously, plans to expand its universe by narrating its story through a different medium: a movie. The announcement came directly from PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash during Sony’s CES 2025 presentation.
Qizilbash confirmed that a film adaptation of Helldivers 2 is in development in collaboration with Sony Pictures. Unfortunately, Arrowhead might not be very involved in the project, as Johan Pilestedt, Arrowhead’s CCO, explained that they are “not Hollywood people.” Nonetheless, Pilestedt has also assured that the studios will be involved in some way during the development of the film.
Players are still waiting for more information about the movie, but at this pace, the movie might still be years away. For now, players will have to enjoy the game’s ongoing lore, which has taken a shocking turn as all factions are eager to take over Super Earth.
