Popular F1 race to be scrapped from calendar after forcing team to change name to take part

A FAN-FAVOURITE Formula One track will be scrapped from the calendar after 2026.

The Dutch Grand Prix, the home race of reigning F1 world champion Max Verstappen, will be hosting its final two races on the motorsport’s calendar later this year and next year.

Betting laws in the country meant Sauber had to drop the name Stake from its name[/caption]

This year the race weekend in Zandvoort is being held on August 29-31 – the first Grand Prix following the summer shutdown.

However, Robert van Overdijk, the Dutch Grand Prix director, confirmed in December of last year that the circuit would only host races for two more years.

He said: “We are a privately owned and operated business, and we must balance the opportunities presented by continuing to host the event, against other risks and responsibilities.

“We have decided to go out on a high with two more incredible Dutch Grands Prix in 2025 and 2026.

“We wanted to take this step while our event is adored and supported by passionate fans, residents, and the Formula 1 community.”

Last year, Sauber – who are becoming Audi from 2026 – was forced to drop the Stake sponsor title from its team name because of strict betting rules in the Netherlands.

Zandvoort only returned to F1 in 2021 to capitalise on a boom in interest in the Netherlands following the success of Red Bull star Verstappen – who has won four drivers titles in a row.

For the track’s final F1 appearance in 14 months time, it will remain as the first race following the shutdown, with the race itself commencing on August 23.

The moves comes in a bid to ease race congestion.

But F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has also confirmed the final event will also play host to a Sprint Race.

Domenicali said: “The Dutch Grand Prix has raised the bar for European Grands Prix in terms of event spectacle and entertainment, supported the development of young talent by hosting F2, F3 and our F1 Academy series, and have also pioneered sustainable solutions that have inspired our events around the world as we drive towards being net zero by 2030.

“All parties positively collaborated to find a solution to extend the race, with many options, including alternation or annual events on the table, and we respect the decision from the promoter to finish its amazing run in 2026.”

Rumours had suggested Zandvoort could be used in rotation with the Belgium Grand Prix, with has entered an agreement to alternate its years on the F1 calendar until 2031, meaning it will not host races in 2028 or 2030.

Another iconic circuit in Imola was axed from the 2026 calendar in favour of a second Grand Prix in Spain, with Barcelona hosting an early season race before Madrid hosts an F1 race for the first time in 45 years.

New tracks earmarked to fill the spot include an F1 return to Africa at South Africa’s Kyalami circuit, while F1 have been in talks to add another street race on the streets of Bangkok, Thailand.

The Dutch GP’s exit could remarkably coincide with Verstappen’s own exit from the sport, after he was tipped to quit F1 if he manages to win a fifth drivers title.

How to save money on summer essentials

SUNNIER days and warmer weather will leave many of us wanting to kit out gardens and outdoor areas.

Sun Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to get a great deal on summer essentials…

It pays to know how to bag big savings on the likes of hot tubs paddling pools, egg chairs and outside bars.

Many retailers have flash sales across entire ranges – often this ties into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends.

Sign up to the mailing lists of your favourite brands and you’ll be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.

Keep a close eye on the specialbuys at Aldi and middle of Lidl drops which drop a couple of times a week and usually mean great value seasonal items such as beach gear and paddling pools.

If you are not in a hurry to buy an item, try adding it to the shopping cart and leaving it for a couple of days.

Sometimes big brands will try to tempt you into the sale by offering you a discount.

Always check if you can get cashback before paying. It’s especially worth using sites such as Topcashback, Quidco and app Jamdoughnut when buying bigger ticket items such as garden furniture as you’ll get a nice kickback.

They captioned it simply with the date of their engagement which was June 8.

The happy reveal prompted countless well-wishes with TJ Reid’s wife Niamh De Brún-Reid as well as David Clifford’s girlfriend Shauna O’Connor among the many to congratulate them.

Shauna hailed: “Omg the best news!!! Massive congratulations, so so happy for ye! Enjoy the celebrations xx.”

In a similar vein, Amy Murphy praised: “The best news for the cutest two!”

Lastly, Eve Dervan joked: “Still crying!”

Downes was part of the Treaty’s panel in 2018 when they won what was a breakthrough All-Ireland – their first since 1973.

The 33-year-old has also won the ultimate honour with his club as Na Piarsaigh stormed to the club All-Ireland crown in 2016.

The club posted a congratulatory message of its own on social media.

It read: “Huge congrats to our senior hurling star Kevin Downes and his partner Grace on their engagement over the weekend.”

The 2025 Limerick panel look well-equipped to get their hands back on Liam MacCarthy on July 20’s showpiece.

Though their six-year reign as Munster kingpins was ended last week by Cork in dramatic fashion, they remain most people’s favourites to wind up climbing the Hogan Stand steps.

If they do reach yet another All-Ireland final, a third Championship match-up with the Rebels could well be in store too.

In the wake of some social media videos showing celebrating Cork celebrations mocking their Treaty foes, it would contain enough narrative power to equal any Hollywood script.

MULLANE WARNING

Earlier this Waterford great John Mullane warned Pat Ryan’s charges that they may come to regret singing about Limerick “f***ing off home” in one pub recording.

Speaking on the Indo GAA podcast, he said: “Just watching the celebrations after the match, I think the Limerick players were going in and (John) Kiely called them back, and he got the whole Limerick players to sit through the celebrations.

“You’re even seeing some of the videos circulating…

“Now it’s fantastic to see the Cork players and management celebrating in the manner in which they are, and they’re fully entitled to celebrate.

“To win a Munster Championship is so hard, you should rightly celebrate it in the manner in which it deserves to be celebrated.

“But if you’re a Limerick player and you’re on that Limerick management team, you’re watching those celebrations.

“And you’re seeing some of those videos circulating around, knowing that we should’ve won that match.

“I can only imagine how peed off some of those Limerick players were on Saturday night, knowing what Limerick City would’ve been like if they’d won.

“There’s a lot of fuel there now, there’s a lot of fuel now there that they can go and use in their favour.

“It’s just set up lovely if these teams meet in six weeks’ time. Even the little drama at half-time added to it all too.

“There’s even a bit of…I wouldn’t say hatred…but there’s probably a bit of dislike brewing among the supporters.”

The Rebels’ collective mood was sure to have been particularly jubilant since they’d been walloped by 16 points when the two sides had met just 20 days previously.

‘What are her neighbours thinking?!’ people gasp as woman takes out her rubbish out ‘with no trousers on’

IF there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s to never buy bottoms in the same shade as your skin.

Why, you may wonder? Because you’ll end up looking like you’ve forgotten to throw on trousers.

Over on Instagram, a mind-bending video has one viral for that very reason.

It’s all very innocent, showing mum Jade Kennedy Gonzalez taking out the rubbish from her back garden.

However, at first glance, it looks shockingly explicit.

Her bottom half appears entirely naked, thanks to her flesh-coloured wide leg bottoms.

In the now-viral clip, which has racked up close to an astronomical 20million views, the mum had paired the bottoms with black Crocs, as well as an oversized T-shirt.

”Today’s your lucky day! You get to watch me take out the trash for half a minute!” said Jade, who regularly shows off her ”curvy” figure online.

Unsurprisingly, the head-scratching post has racked up thousands of comments, with many left totally baffled.

One message included: ”I wouldn’t wear that color pants, makes you look like you don’t have any on.”

Another viewer wrote: ”I thought she was naked.”

Someone else agreed, writing: ”This colour of trousers should be illegal.”

Meanwhile, others were more concerned about the people living nearby.

”What are her neighbours thinking?”

‘No trousers on’

Recently, one jet-setter also left people gobsmacked after she appeared to board the plane with ”no trousers on”.

A video of the passenger was shared on Instagram by radio host Shellian, who joked that she must have been listening to Dexta Daps’ song No Underwear.

“What is this going on?” she raged.

“Lord give me strength. I see no drawers!”

Referring to the airline the woman was travelling on, Shellian added: “Are you going to let this happen?

“You need to ban some s**t. This ain’t right. She have on no drawers.”

Why the latest fashion trends are a disaster for real women’s bodies

Fabulous’ Fashion Editor Clemmie Fieldsend explains why she, as a size 10, is struggling to add this season’s latest trends to her wardrobe.

“If if I was to wear the season’s styles, I’d look stupid.

My job as Fashion Editor is to know what’s hot and what’s not, what’s in shops and what people are wearing. But this season, stores seem flooded with looks I find unwearable — and I’m sure many more ‘normal’ people do, too.

For example, I wouldn’t be caught dead in the love handles-baring low-rise jeans that are dominating the High Street.

And I recently saw a picture of the stunning Sydney Sweeney in a pair — with boyish-looking boxers poking out the top, and matching bandeau crop top. Despite her beauty, I thought the White Lotus star looked daft.

And I had to ask myself: ‘What reinforcements has she got holding up her boobs?’

The other thing irritating me about fashion is, if it’s not open at the back, it’s open at the front.

While I’m all for body confidence and wearing what you want, there’s no way I’m standing on a packed train, or visiting the office, with my stomach, bra and boobs on show. I’d hate to put anyone off their corn flakes.

Right now, Zara is the worst offender. When its models aren’t crouching awkwardly on top of kitchen stoves they are wearing crocheted flared trousers and spaghetti-strapped sequin crop tops.

I’m a 33-year-old M&S woman. From underwear to outerwear, I love them and look to them every week to see what’s trending.

They’re really nailing waistcoats at the moment. Simple and stylish, they’ve got them in cotton, linen and a rainbow of colours.”

However, in the comments section people were divided as to what was going on, with many insisting the woman was wearing skin-coloured leggings.

“You can see a crease at the back of the knee,” one wrote.

“Also, human skin has dimples, uneven discolouration in random spots, cellulite and jiggling.”

But others hit back, as they were certain that the female passenger was naked, after her dress rode up.

“If it was leggings you wouldn’t see the separation of her butt cheeks,” one wrote.

“They are not leggings!”

“Take a photo, zoom in, she doesn’t have pants on! She is buck naked!” another laughed.
