Met Eireann pinpoint exact date ‘weather will turn drier’ with sunny spells & 22C heat in high pressure shake-up

IRELAND is set to see a major switch-up in weather, with Met Eireann forecasting “sunny spells” and “dry” conditions in just a matter of days.

The country was hit with a Status Yellow rain warning yesterday but weather boffins have confirmed there will be “plenty of dry weather” next week.

The weather bosses are warning of showery rain with “unsettled” conditions over the coming days.

But the country is set to become “mostly dry” next week with plenty of sunny spells and “just isolated showers.”

Carlow Weather‘s Alan O’Reilly revealed that Ireland will see “better settled” weather with “very little rain.”

He said: “If it’s hot weather you want next week then Spain is the place to go with 40c possible again.

“Meanwhile in Ireland, we will see better settled weather for 7-10 days, not zero rain and clear blues skies but very little rain and better weather.”

And looking towards conditions over the next few days, Met Eireann said high pressure will steadily build near Ireland next week and “the weather will turn drier”.

Met Eireann Meteorologist Matthew Martin said: “The weather will remain showery and rather unsettled over the coming days.

“But the good news is that high pressure will build in near Ireland next week, bringing plenty of dry weather.”

Showery rain will clear to the north this morning, clearing from north Ulster by around lunchtime.

It will then be a bright day nationwide with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers.

But later this afternoon, a few heavier and thundery downpours may develop in the southwest.

Highs of 17C to 21C with mostly moderate southerly winds.

Matthew added: “There’ll be a good dry and clear spells in the north and east early tonight.

“But showers in the south and west will continue and these will become widespread across the country later in the night.

“Some of the showers tonight will be heavy and prolonged. Lowest temperatures of 9C to 12C.”

RAIN SPELLS

It will be a generally cloudy start on Saturday with showers or longer spells of rain.

The cloud will break in some areas during the afternoon, especially in the south of the country allowing for some sunny spells to develop.

However, the sunshine will spark off further showers, some of these will be heavy and thundery with highs of 14C to 18C.

Showers will clear from the east and northeast of the country early on Saturday night and much of the country will become dry and clear for a time.

Sunday will be cloudy with a few showers spreading from the west but it will become sunnier later in the day.

Highest temperatures of 15C to 18C in moderate west to southwest winds.

RAIN CLEARING

It will be mostly dry on Sunday night with just a few showers in the northwest with the lowest temperatures of 8C to 11C.

Met Eireann said: “Monday looks certainly mostly dry day with a mix of cloud and sunshine with highs of 17C to 22C.

“A weak rain band will move in from the Atlantic down on Monday night to affect some western and northern counties.

“Tuesday, patchy rain and drizzle will clear to the south in the morning.

“It will then be a mostly dry day with spells of sunshine. Maximum temperatures of 16C to 21C in moderate westerly winds.

“The current indications are that it will be mostly dry on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of next week with sunny spells and just isolated showers.”

Newcastle’s 65,000-seater new ‘super stadium’ labelled ‘scandalous’ as complaints pour in before plans are even revealed

NEWCASTLE fans are already petitioning against a “scandalous” new stadium – despite the club not yet revealing any plans.

A 28,000-strong petition was presented to councillors in Newcastle earlier this week.

The Toon are reportedly looking to move away from St James Park – their home since 1892.

Club executives are proposing a capacity of around 65,000 for the new “super stadium”, according to The Mail.

The rumoured ground would reportedly see the club build on Leazes Park, next to St James’.

But some locals have reacted with fury at any suggestion of building in the city’s oldest public park.

Newcastle’s Labour-led authority refused to agree to the petition request as plans had not yet been submitted to them by the club.

Labour councillor Dan Greenhough told the BBC: “The speculation around Leazes Park is exactly that – speculation.

“The coverage on the subject in the international media and wherever else is beyond our control.”

The “once in a generation” stadium could cost Newcastle’s Saudi owners anywhere between £2billion and £3billion.

But building on Leazes Park -which is Grade II listed and was opened in 1873 – would be a “scandal”, according to local activists.

Newcastle declined to comment when approached by the BBC.

Toon bosses are keen to capitalise on the feel-good factor around the club after ending a 70-year trophy drought.

Newcastle beat Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final to end more than half a century of heartache.

The proposed plans would see Newcastle have the third biggest football stadium in England behind Old Trafford and Wembley.

At 65,000, the ground would be bigger than the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the London Stadium, Anfield and the Emirates.
