Prince William enjoys impromptu pint at the pub with locals after braving the rain for muddy Dartmoor visit

PRINCE William enjoyed an impromptu pint during a muddy visit to Dartmoor yesterday.

The Duke of Cornwall braved heavy rain and wind to visit Royal Tor Bog, near Yelverton, Devon, and spoke to men and women working in collaboration to help restore the “special” landscape.

After working up a thirst, William headed to the Prince of Wales pub in the picturesque village of Princetown.

He sipped on a local cider at the bar and chatted to locals before making his way home.

The Prince’s project will focus on a “coordinated public and private investment” to restore peatlands and upland mosaic habitats in the south Devon area.

“I’m keen to continue my father’s work as well,” said William, who inherited responsibility for the land with the Duchy of Cornwall in 2022.

“For me it’s about the impact, I want to see stuff actually happen. We’ve done the talking now, we’ve put the vision together, the design, now it’s about the activation.”

Pointing to an area of bog which has been restored, he added: “Even though this is a small bit, we need to get more and more of this going on all around Dartmoor to bring it back to its former glory while still keeping the farming and everything else going.”

The Prince spoke out after discussing a new 20-year plan to give fresh life to Dartmoor’s wilderness while helping to protect it from climate change with a group including Tony Juniper, chair of Natural England and Phil Stocker, Chair of Dartmoor Land Use Management Group.

As they chatted in the steady downpour, the Prince joked: “I came to talk about the fires and a plan to re-wet peat!”

Referring to the Landscape Vision, he said: “To be able to bring everyone together, I think, is not only crucial to the whole thing but it sets a model for how it can be done elsewhere.

“And that’s what I love doing. Whatever we do here, other people can follow what we’re doing.

“So much of it is local leadership and collaboration. If you put those two together, things can be adapted.”

The Prince said not everyone believed the vision to restore the land within just two decades was possible.

“[They said] 20 years, good luck, it’s going to take longer than that! These things take time, they really do.

“But at least if you set up a path and move in that direction, everyone will move in the same direction.”

The Prince heard from Stocker how they had been “making progress” in bringing different people on board with the plan.

“The one thing that has come through is the enthusiasm,” Phil said.

Morag Angus, of the South West Peatland Partnership, told William how the land they were looking at had become more barren and dry and was benefitting from a “re-wetting” process.

She said afterwards: “If someone like the Prince is coming down here, it just shows that he’s thinking about it and how important is.

“And I think it just galvanizes everyone and gets everyone on board and gets them coming here to talk about it, but also to make sure we action things and we make meaningful restoration happen.

“See it happening, rather than just talking about it.”

Tonight’s ITV documentary shows the highs and lows of Sam’s recent gruelling 260-mile trip from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford.

Along the way, the reality star suffered a calf injury while running, which hindered him.

Not one to quit, the I’m A Celebrity champ continued the huge challenge and completed it on both bike and foot.

However, due to his injury, and also the enormity of the challenge, Sam broke down when he saw his best friend Pete Wicks along the way.

In our exclusive clip Sam can be seen getting emotional as he talks to his good pal.

Struggling to compose himself, Sam says that he didn’t think he’s “smashing it”.

Pete immediately rushes to comfort his pal, and says: “You are smashing it, are you still going? There you go, you’re smashing it. Come on, you’re all right. You’re good.

“You’re the guy before you started, you’re the guy now and you’re going to be the guy when you finish. You got this.”

Reflecting on this moment, Sam says to the camera: “I lost myself when I was hugging Pete.

“All of this frustration, all of this like emotion about how embarrassed I am and how I feel like I’m letting people down and.

“Everyone else who does these challenges complete it and I was being proved right that I wasn’t the guy.”

INJURED STAR

Sam’s turmoil has continued today after it was revealed that he has had to pull out of Soccer Aid on Sunday, due to injuries sustained in his epic marathon challenge

A source said: “Sam is gutted he can’t play, but the match has just come too soon since his efforts.

“He’s still going to be a presence and play a big part in the coverage but he won’t be able to compete on the field.”

The source added: “There is a small blessing in his withdrawal as the focus on him and Louis will disperse.

“Their every move will be watched so it’s a relief in some ways they won’t be on the pitch together.”

Sam was due to play in the same England side as One Direction star Louis, 33, who is now dating his ex Zara McDermott.

The pair were pictured training this week at Soccer Aid HQ in Tring, Herts, where the England and Rest of the World teams are preparing for the match.

Sam will now play a “ceremonial role” in Sunday’s match, kicking off the game before heading into the stands.

On his absence, England teammate Mo Farah said: “If Sam’s unable to play that’s a shame but we’re still proud of him for his efforts and what he did for UNICEF.

“He’ll still be with us and part of our team on the day.”

Exact cost of leaving a fan on all night as 29C temps to hit UK

SUMMER is well and truly here and if you’re trying to keep your home cool, here’s everything you need to know about running a fan.

With temperatures reaching a sweltering 29C heading into the weekend, now is the time to get your cooling gadgets out.

An easy formula will help you calculate exactly how much your fan costs to run (stock image)

Don’t make a common costly mistake when it comes to running you fan (stock image)[/caption]

However, if you’re planning on using a fan, you may want to know how much the appliance costs to run.

While household bills are generally lower during the summer with no need for heating, it can still be a costly time of year.

If you want to avoid skyrocketing energy bills, try taking measures to save money on your gas and electricity.

The best way to do this is by learning how much your appliances cost to run.

How much energy does a fan use?

You can work out how much electricity your fan is using by finding out its “wattage”.

Then turn that wattage into kilowatt hours by finding out the total output of your appliance.

Do this by dividing the kilowatt hours by 1,000 – this gives your output per hour.

For example, if your fan has 70 watts output on its high setting, divide 70 by 1000 to get 0.07.

Next, you’ll need to multiply this number by the number of hours you’ve used the fan.

So if you’re using it for 12 hours at a time, then 0.07kW x 12 hours will mean 0.84kW output.

How much does it cost to leave a fan on all night?

Once you have established your kilowatt output, you can multiply it by the amount you are charged for 1 kW of electricity.

Since there is no standard price for electricity cost per kWh in the UK, you’ll need to look at your energy bill to figure it out.

The most recent Ofgem price cap saw suppliers charge those on the standard variable tariff up to 27.03p per kWh for electricity.

So you’d take your 0.84kW and times it by 27.03p to get 22.71p.

The equation is: cost = power (kilowatt) × time (hour) × cost of 1 kWh (pence).

How to keep cool in a heatwave

Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it's too hot, there are health risks. Here are three ways to keep cool according to the NHS...

Keep out of the heat if you can.

If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

Cool yourself down.

Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks, and have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes.

Keep your living space cool.

Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees. Check the temperature of rooms, especially where people at higher risk live and sleep.

That means if your fan costs 22.71p to run for that amount of time, having it on for a full week will add up to £1.59.

And if you repeat this across a month of 4.5 weeks, the cost would be £7.15.

Costs will vary depending on your fan type, how long you’re using it, what setting it’s on, and how much you pay for your energy.

Do fans make a room cooler?

While fans can’t technically make a room cooler, they can make you feel cooler.

Your body temperature is lowered as the air moves over your skin but a fan won’t do much to tackle the heat inside your room.

So if you don’t plan on spending long in your room there’s no point in leaving the fan on.

How else can I keep cool in the heat?

Sticking your bed sheets in the freezer can help to cool them down, according to TikTok star That Property Guy.

Shutting your curtains and blinds during the day can also help your home to stay cool in the hot weather.

You can also open the windows on both sides of your home to create a cooling through-breeze at no extra the cost.

That Property Guy also recommended avoiding using the oven and turning off appliances that may release heat.

Or you can place hot water bottles in the freezer to keep you cool overnight.

And if you want to make your fan work harder, try putting a bowl of with water and ice in front of it to help cool down the house.

Irishwoman fighting for life in Spain after cardiac arrest on ‘first family holiday in 20 years’ as relatives issue plea

AN Irishwoman is fighting for her life in Spain after suffering a cardiac arrest on her “first family holiday in 20 years.”

Joan is now in an induced coma and on a ventilator receiving intensive care at a hospital in the popular sunshine spot.

Her condition is critical and showing no signs of improvement.

Debbie, who is a lifelong family friend, has launched a fundraiser to help Joan’s family with the financial burden of bringing her back to Ireland.

She wrote: “I am reaching out with an urgent appeal on behalf of our dear Joan who is currently fighting for her life far from home.

“While on her first family holiday in over 20 years, a well-deserved break she was so excited for, Joan tragically suffered a cardiac arrest.

“She is now in a hospital in Spain in an induced coma and on a ventilator receiving intensive care.

“Her condition is critical and showing no signs of improvement.”

Doctors have said the only way for Joan to return to Ireland to continue her medical treatment is via a medical plane, the costs of which are “well beyond” what Joan’s family can afford.

Debbie continued: “In addition to the cost of the medical flight her daughters are facing mounting expenses just to remain by her side in Spain during this nightmare.

“It is now peak season as people would be well aware and accommodation alone is costing a crazy amount and that is without food, travel to and from the hospital and time away from their own jobs.

“I am asking for your help to raise €50,000 to cover the urgent cost of the medical plane and to support the family during this incredibly difficult time.

“Joan’s travel insurance is refusing to pay for a medical flight home and will only pay a certain per cent towards the cost if she can walk onto the plane in the care of a doctor.”

‘SUCH A LOVELY WOMAN’

The fundraiser was created two days ago, with a set target of raising €50,00.

Some €28,505 has been raised so far with over 557 donations.

Debbie added: “Anyone who knows Joan, knows she is such a lovely, funny, selfless woman who would help anyone in need.

“But now it is her time of need and she needs as much help as possible to bring her home.

“Every donation, no matter how big or small will make a difference.

“If you are unable to donate please consider sharing our appeal and keeping Joan in your thoughts and prayers.

“Your support will be very much appreciated to help bring our Joan home.”

Man Utd chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe locked in legal battle with Tottenham over broken multi-million sponsorship deal

SPURS are locked in a legal battle with Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in a row over a broken sponsorship deal.

Ratcliffe’s Ineos chemicals giant and its Grenadier car brand agreed a five-year deal as Spurs’ “official 4×4 vehicle partner” in December 2022.

It followed a 2020 contract with Ineos unveiled as the club’s “official hand sanitiser supplier” during the pandemic.

Following Ratcliffe’s takeover at Prem rivals United last year it was confirmed that the company intended to pull out of the agreement.

It was believed that a break deal in the multi-million pound agreement had been reached between the two parties.

But now Spurs have instigated a High Court legal action against Ineos.

As part of what is listed as a “general commercial contracts and arrangements”, Tottenham have lodged a claim against Ineos Automotive Limited, a subsidiary of Ineos.

That suggests negotiations have failed to find an agreement, with the Tottenham claim lodged on June 12.

Tottenham declined to comment while Ineos said in a statement: “INEOS Automotive has been a partner of Tottenham Hotspur since 2022, expanding on a partnership agreement that INEOS Group had in place with the club since 2020.

“We have a contractual right to terminate our partnership contract and in December 2024 exercised that right.”

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS

SunSport understands it is hoped a deal can be reached to prevent a full High Court hearing.

Spurs appointed Thomas Frank as their new manager on Thursday, six days on from the departure of Ange Postecoglou.

The Lilywhites paid Brentford around £10million in compensation for the Dane.

Frank’s move took time to be completed due to negotiations over backroom staff – specifically highly-rated head of coaching Justin Cochrane.

Man Utd considered the Brentford boss as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag last summer.

However, the Red Devils instead opted for Ruben Amorim in October.
